Review of the online news article “ASEAN Summit to discuss cooperation on

human rights, democracy”

The article is all about the ASEAN summit to discuss cooperation on human rights,

democracy.  Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Mahfud MD said

cooperation in the field of democracy and human rights will be discussed during the Association

of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Phnom Penh, Cambodia from Nov. 9 to 12 this

year. ASEAN is composed of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia,

Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

In a message aired on the ministry's Youtube page on Monday, he stated that "a number

of important subjects will be discussed during the conference, including cooperation in the field

of democracy, human rights, intelligence, and common security. "Mahfud will travel to the

meeting with President Joko Widodo, who will formally replace Cambodia as the ASEAN chair.

Of course, he continued, "what the ASEAN Summit seeks to realize is (the objective of) the

long-established basic principles, namely, a peaceful, secure, and prosperous region for the

ASEAN community, which is steadily growing. ASEAN is a well-known international forum. It

is anticipated that its neutrality will promote calm and tranquility in international relations. The

minister remarked, “This needs to be strengthened in the future”.

Overall, there is a clear pattern in the way the article delivers each argument, and each

statement is distinct from the others, which makes the piece quite helpful. Hopefully, they can fix

those little flaws.
