The True Cost | Secrets Behind Fashion Industry | Exploitation | Documentary

By Andrew Morgan

It is believed by many that what you wear actually states about your status
socially and financially. It came to the point where majority of people would redo their
closet, start back to the beginning, then refill them with new and trendy clothes. I
assume that’s how people that are dominated by fashion works.

Apparently, globalization is the goods being traded across borders. With fashion
being one of the most sought popular trends it is a greed for every fashionista to have
what is newly released, and because of that, clothes have to be exported from borders
to borders to satisfy followers. The part where the news introduced Bangladesh as
seconds largest apparel exporter next to China for having prices of the manufactures
“dirt cheap”.

The solution that I actually want to highlight and say that it is viable is, the part
where the director introduced someone that believed that there must be a better way
and doing things right, still with economic growth but without taking such as huge
charge, Safia Minney. Stating about how some fashion brands don’t think about the well
beings of not just the worker but the effect to people doing the hard work. Going to
different places and doing thorough studies and research and building a like-minded,
Fair trade organization. This organization focuses on the worker’s social development,
individual growth, and most importantly the very poor environment and make it
essential.
Andrew Morgan explicitly showed in the documentary the truth about how fast
fashion is to majority that works just to provide for their family, but is overworked and
badly paid. Every truth revelation I saw were disturbing in their own way, but what I find
very disturbing the most is how huge companies pay 2cents for 1 finished jeans or cloth.
With immense profit they make, they are still unable to support millions of its workers
properly. The worst part is, they would force the manufacturing companies to lower their
price or else they get nothing. Then, they would be forced to lower their price which
would result to low income for the workers. Not only that but also the vast number of
farmers committing suicide because unjust pricing and if unable to pay back their land
would be taken from them.

It is very disturbing how no one sees the truth behind every fashion runway,
magazines and the industry itself. A lot of neglect just to gain huge amount of profit.
Their business is all about profit and never ever a single thought and consideration
about the cost. The cost of labor, the cost of environment getting much damaged just
because of the greed for profit, the cost of lives being at risk.

This documentary will be a very eye opening to people. A lot of realizations will
eventually come and open the eyes and minds of the viewers. Give consideration about
the people who gives much hard work just to satisfy peoples greed in fashion, profit for
the company, not just that, but also think if they are treated how they must be treated.
Just because you see that they are the ones who are very much in need of money does
not give the industry the right to use that an advantage for their own good.
