Linux is an open source operating system.

2. What type of license does LINUX have?


Linux is licensed with the GNU General Public License (GPL), a document devised
for the GNU project by the Free Software Foundation.

3. What are LINUX distributions?


A Linux distribution is a set of utilities, software and different builds of the Linux
kernel. There are many Linux distributions, because many individuals and
companies have created their own versions tailored to their needs, and are based
on the OpenSource GNU Linux project.

4. Mention 3 LINUX distributions:


 Ubuntu

5. Write down the advantages and disadvantages of LINUX:

1. What is Ubuntu?
Ubuntu is an open-source Debian-based Linux distribution.
2. Ubuntu updates:
a. How often is it updated?
Every 6 months Ubuntu have new updates of the system
b. What is the relationship between the months of the year and the Ubuntu
versions?
The updates that are every six months are those that the Ubuntu add new
security patches, and the yearly updates are those that add new features to
the system

1. What versions can we have on Ubuntu?
 Ubuntu 20.04
 Ubuntu 22.04
2. Can changes be made to these two versions? (e.g. graphical interface, server
service installation, or reverse operation)

3. Partitions: (add information read in the article referring to)


 Primary partitions:
A storage unit can have a maximum of four storage units and must have at
least one primary partition.

 Extended partitions:
There can be only one storage unit, but there can also be none. If it exists, it
occupies the space of a primary partition, so there could only be three
primary partitions.

 Logical partitions:
They are always located inside an extended partition.

 Free space:

4. Explain what each one is:


 Swap: Swap space is used when your operating system decides that it
needs physical memory for active processes and the amount of available
(unused) physical memory is insufficient. When this happens, inactive
pages from the physical memory are then moved into the swap space,
freeing up that physical memory for other uses.

 /home: contain a collection of folders, including one called Public.

5. What is the file system type currently used by Ubuntu?


Ext4 is the type of file system used in ubuntu

6. If you want to install the Ubuntu server, which version would you install today?
Justify the answer.
Ubuntu server 22.04 LTS, because has support until 2027 and is the newest stable
version.

7. We have two ways to install Ubuntu Server:
 Installing Ubuntu Desktop and then turning it into a server via command.
 Using the Ubuntu Server ISO.
