A message from Maimonides says “Give a man a fish and you
feed for a day: teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”. Another fruitful week has been spent by the public-school teachers for the department keeps on enhancing and shaping their competence.
As teachers, we need to continue growing. We may be
equipped with knowledge along our way as we age in the service but these are not enough to balance or to suit everything. The Department of Education is responsive to the needs of the department. A lot of trainings and activities are conducted to make sure that needs are addressed.
Last March 15-19, the Department of Education sponsored the
National In-Service Training for public School teachers. This training is made to address the needs of the current educational set- up of the country due to the pandemic. This training introduced and oriented the participants with the most appropriate options and procedures that can be used by teachers at the current time in order to reach out for learners under distant learning. I realized that as teachers, we should not be contented only on the use of modules. A lot of issues and problem surfaced which only means that this mode of learning is not enough for learners to achieve optimum learning. It means that we need to skip out from using modules only. We have different avenues to use such TV, Radio, Commons ,OERs and others. These are effective tools that can be used this time of pandemic. Going on with the other topics. It made me wonder but appreciative that there can be other skills that can be learned by teachers to enhanced their competence. Most of the topics dealt with technology. This implies that teachers need to be knowledgeable of using technology. We can have a reach to our students with the use of technology. It was a very technical work which needs assistance from experts but I believe we can do it if we learn by heart.
Non- stop acquisition of learning is really necessary to give
justice to our crucial roles as teachers. The learning that we gained is another ancillary of armors that we can use in the battlefield as we prepare our students for their bright future. Indeed, teachers ended the 5 day INSET with contentment and eagerness with their heart as they tackle their job.
