Steganography: Exercise#1

1. Understand how to steganography works and how it's used to hide secrets.
2. Find free digital forensic tool that use steganography techniques.
3. Investigate the possibility for discovering the hidden secrets by steganography
techniques.

What to do?

Write a report of 4 pages that includes the following:

1. Brief introduction about the aforementioned three questions.

2. Carry out the following experiments and write down all steps:
a. Experiment #1: Describe how steganography works as the following:
i. Select one free steganography tool.
ii. Prepare an image for hiding a secret inside it.
iii. Prepare a document to hide.
iv. Hide the document in step (c) inside the image in step (b).
v. Show a comparison between the original image and the new one
that contains the secret.
vi. Extract again the secret (the message) from the image.
b. Experiment #2: Repeat experiment #1 as the following:
i. Select one free steganography tool.
ii. Prepare an Audio/Video file for hiding a secret inside it.
iii. Prepare a secret (text is preferred) to hide in the file.
iv. Hide the document in step (c) inside the Audio/Video file in step (b).
v. Show a comparison between the original Audio/Video file and the
new one that contains the secret.
vi. Extract again the secret (the message) from the Audio/Video file.
