Tour Itinerary Beijing, Shanghai (9 days) April 1 April 9, 2012


Day 1 (Apr 1) ARRIVE BEIJING Arrive Beijing airport, where you will be met by your guide and transfer to the beautiful garden-style hotel: Jianguo Hotel. Jianguo Hotel Beijing is famous for its unique decoration and design, adjacent to the Beijing diplomatic quarter, in the heart of Beijing Central Business District, just 1 minute walking from the metro and 5 minutes walking from the famous Xiushui Market (Silk Market). By car, 10 minutes from Tiananmen Square and numerous historical sights and 30 minutes from the Beijing Capital International Airport. The rest of the day is at leisure to relax and do as you like. Day 2 (Apr 2) BEIJING (B, L, SD) This morning you are going to wake up in the magnificent 800 year old Capital city of Beijing! When you arrive at Tiananmen Square and are standing in the middle of the largest square in the world, you will really want to pinch yourself. Thats right, you are in China! You will follow the meridian line of this ancient city and enter the majestic Forbidden City, which has been a monument to classic Chinese architecture for over 500 years. In the afternoon you will explore an authentic Chinese Imperial garden the Summer Palace. It is a summer resort built exclusively for the Emperor and

Empress. You are going to enjoy the legendary scenery originally reserved only for the Imperial family! Tonight you will savor the most authentic Peking Duck Dinner at Dadong Restaurant in Beijing; a great way to finish an unforgettable day! Day 3 (Apr 3) BEIJING (B, SL, D) A full-day excursion takes you seventy kilometers (112 miles) northeast of Beijing to the Mutianyu Great Wall. Mutianyu section of Great Wall used to serve as the northern barrier defending the capital and the imperial tombs. First built in the mid-6th century A.D., the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall is older than the Badaling section. In 1569, during the Ming Dynasty, the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall was rebuilt and even today most parts of it are still well preserved. The Mutianyu Great Wall has the largest construction scale and best quality among all sections of Great Wall. Mutianyu is the grandeur and yet less visited section of the Great Wall. You will take a cable car up to the top of the wall where you can walk through history. Enjoy your lunch at a local School House! You can visit the art workshops there during lunch time. The Great Wall was an extraordinary 4,000-mile-long fortification built to thwart barbarian invasions. A walk along a section of this enormous edifice is definitely a not to be missed experience! After dinner, you will take a rickshaw tour through old downtown Beijing. These historic narrow alleyways are called Hutongs. You will really be amazed by this peek into the everyday life of the real Beijingers! You are going to enjoy a face-to-face visit with a local family there. So prepare your list of questions that you want to ask, and anticipate a genuine warm welcome from your host! This evening, you will enjoy the fantastic Legends of Kung Fu Show after dinner! Day 4 (Apr 4) BEIJING (B)

Day 5 (Apr 5) BEIJING / SHANGHAI (B) This morning, you will fly to Shanghai. Welcome to Shanghai! Cosmopolitan Shanghai is considered to be the most Western-styled Chinese city. Established early in the last century, it is the financial and commercial center of China today. You will be impressed by the skyline of this stunning metropolis. You will be picked up by the guide and taken to your hotel. Stay overnight at beautiful Sino-French joint venture hotel: Best Western New Century Hotel. It is at the cross of Li Yang Road and Si Ping Road in the Bund business and financial area. It enjoys a favorable geographic location and convenient traffic. It is 2 km about 5-minutes-drive from the Bund. The New International Expo Center is 20-minutes-drive. Day 7 (Apr 7) SHANGHAI (B, SL, D) This morning, you will stroll along the signature area of Shanghai, the Bund. While standing on the Bund, Chinas most famous waterfront stretching about a mile along the Huangpu River, you will see the contrast of both the old and the new world! The older buildings finished at the beginning of last century, contrasting with the modern Oriental Pearl Tower; the tallest TV tower in Asia. Then, you will get chance to be in the Observation Lounge on the highest building in the world Shanghai International Financial Center, and

have a birds eye view of this sophisticated cosmopolitan city from the Observation Lounge. According to CNN: The Shanghai World Financial Center observation deck is pretty high. Just how high? Tallest in the world kind of high. At almost half a kilometer in the air, the 55-meter Skywalk 100 observation corridor spans the top of the square gap at the summit of the Shanghai World Financial Center. With angled glass walls that make you feel as if you are leaning over the edge and see-through floor panels, it's a highly hallucinatory experience. A softer option is the Skywalk 97 at a mere 439 meters with a glass roof that opens up. Today, you will enjoy a special Dim Sum lunch. This afternoon, you will visit the best museum in China: Shanghai Museum! Shanghai Museum is a very modern design, and has an extensive collection of all aspects of Chinese art from ceramics to jades, furniture, costumes to paintings, and more. You are also driving to Pudong New Territory, to appreciate the beautiful skyline of Shanghai! In the evening, after dinner you will enjoy the fantastic stunts of the Acrobatic Show! Day 8 (Apr 8) SHANGHAI /SUZHOU/SHANGHAI (B, L, SD) Today you will have a day trip to Suzhou by private coach. On the way you will get a chance to appreciate the beautiful country scenery. Suzhou is a port on China's Grand Canal. Bordering on Shanghai to the east, Zhejiang Province to the south, Lake Taihu to the west and the Yangtze River to the north, Suzhou enjoys a mild, humid climate and is easily accessible by water, land and air. Suzhou, as the silk capital, is also famous for its elegant and charming gardens, decorated by the traditional building of tall white perimeter walls. This morning, you are going to visit two very beautiful and classical gardens, called: The Lingering Garden and The Garden of Master of Nets. Then you will visit the Silk Factory where you can appreciate the silk manufacturing process step by step and enjoy some shopping there.

After lunch, you will enjoy the famous Shantang Street! Its like stepping into the old Suzhou, which has over 1200 years of history. You will be fascinated by the old street full of life and energy. In between the elegant old bridges, a boat ride on the ancient Grand Canal will refresh you with its hundreds of years of history you will feel like you are going back in time! Tonight, you will drive back to Shanghai and enjoy your farewell dinner in China! Day 9 (Apr 9) SHANGHAI / US (B) After breakfast, you will be picked up by your guide and taken to the Maglev station, where you will take the Shanghai Maglev Train (high speed train) to Pudong International Airport for your flight home or extension tour.
