purchase quality brushes.

for years if maintained

1. A Large Dome Brush
This brush is great for
distributing powder to
provide a soft and velvety
fnish over the entire
face. Many people try to
achieve this look with the
small round disc pad that
normally comes inside
a compact. This is okay
for occasional touch ups
throughout the day but not
for your initial application
at the start of your day
when you frst apply your
makeup.
2. Eyeshadow shader/
Crease Brush
The eyeshadow shader/
crease brush is great for
depositing shadow to the
lid of the eye for a smooth
and even fnish. This brush
is also versatile in the fact
that when turned on its
side, it can also be used as
a crease brush to give the
eye more depth.
3. Concealer Brush
The concealer brush is
an amazing brush! It gets
into the grooves of the
face where the average
brush cant reach. This
brush is usually frm and
synthetic and made for
the purpose of applying
creamy products such as
concealer.
It distributes
the concealer to a
smooth and non-
creasy texture on the
skin.
4. Foundation Brush
Now this brush is
optional but I suggest that
if you wear liquid or cream
foundation then this is a
great tool to have. By using
this brush, you will save
so much more product.
You would be shocked
to see how far a small
drop of foundation with a
foundation brush will go in
lieu of a sponge. It tends to
soak up so much more of
the product in the process
of distribution, whereas
with the foundation brush,
it is much easier to gauge.
Also, the fnish is so much
more soft and even.
5. Lip Brush
A lip Brush is always
great to have in your case
and in your purse for
travel. This brush is an
awesome tool for applying
lipstick more precise
and defned. It will also
help you get the most for
your money with your lip
products. For example,
there is a large amount of
product left in the bottom
of your tube of lipstick
that cant be used unless
going in with a brush. So
you are getting more for
your dollars when you
can actually reach the
bottom of the tube. The
lip brush is also great for
lip gloss. Some lip glosses
come with a brush or doe
foot attached to the lid
but those that dont, this
brush is great for squeeze
or pot glosses that dont
have an applicator.
Cleaning and maintaining
your brushes
It is important to clean
your brushes in between
use. This can be done by
using a brush cleaner that
will condition the hairs
along with disinfecting
for sanitary purposes. I
would suggest this process
be done after your day to
day use. But at least once
a week. Take all of your
brushes and give them a
thorough cleansing with
a conditioning shampoo
to provide them with a
thorough cleaning. After
this is done, squeeze the
heads of the brushes
between your index and
middle fnger, lay on the
side of a fat surface and
let them air dry. I suggest
this process be done
overnight, so by the time
your ready to use them in
the morning they will be
clean and dry.

he name Erica Kane is iconic. For 40
years the mere mention of it brings
to mind the All My Children soap
diva a small in stature fashionista
with an agenda, thats nothing to play
with. Well, one of Clevelands children
bearing the same name (give or take a
few different letters) is no different. She
not only fts the description, but turns it up
a notch with an upgrade or two of course.
A big feat for such a petite person, but as
our own Erika Kayne has proved, looks are
defnitely deceiving. Who would ever think
that the songbird whos been pursuing her
passion since the age of 14 would wind up
doing 18 months in the Ohio Reformatory
for Women in Marysville, Ohio at the age of
20? Who knew that the girl with the ever-
growing fan base still has a funny feeling
that she may not make it if she stays in her
hometown. And who ever knew that such
a vigorous voice could come out of such
a small frame?
The 23-year-old,
56 songstress
appears to be more
like Americas Next
Top Model as opposed to an American
Idol. But, shes no lightweight. And once
her boisterous voice weighs heavy on your
ears, youll know shes walking the right
runway and is prepared for takeoff.
So who is Erika Kayne?
Erika Kayne is just a normal, regular
girl. I live a normal life. I work a job. But
I sing, and thats what I love to do. But,
regardless of it all, Im a normal person,
said the aspiring singer who poses as an
Embassy Suites Hotel worker by day.
Outside of singing an occasional happy
birthday to her hotel patrons, Erika is
working overtime on her dream job to
present her fans with the material they love.
And boy does she have a lot of fans!

So many that shes had to create multiple
Facebook pages that are all at capacity
for friend requests. Without your fans
youre nothing. If I didnt have them I
would just be that girl who can sing.
And I have to say, having them is
the best feeling in the world,
Erika expressed with sincerity.
I make my music for them.
They send me Facebook and
Twitter messages, voicemails
and text messages telling
me how theyre having these
problems and how my music
helped them through it. My music
pertains to life usually, so their
issues are my issues. Thats
why the album Im working on
now is titled Through All My
Struggles.
A lot of people dont
know this, but at the age
of 20 I went to jail,
Erika revealed.
That was
the biggest
struggle for
me. Having
to come
home
and
bounce
back from the mistakes
that I made and still pursuing
what it is that I had to do was the
biggest struggle Ive ever had to endure
in my life. I sat down and just thought
about where I could have been if I didnt
do what I did to be where I was. What
she did was argue, fght and later regret
the altercation she had with the mother
of an ex-boyfriends child. According to
Erika, after a stint of prank phone calls
were made to her by the woman who
decided to show up fve carloads deep to
fght her and her two friends a gun was
drawn and before she knew it, she was
in handcuffs. Although no one was hurt
physically, Erika had to endure the pain
of spending her 21st birthday in prison,
patiently waiting to come home while
the boyfriend had another baby with
the woman she had the trouble with.
Though he is fodder for most of
the heartfelt ballads
Erika has belted out,
she insists that that
relationship is a thing
of the past and that the
two are actually civil to
this day.
Now that Ive
matured and Ive grown
Ive learned to live
with it and see that
its made me who I
am, she said of her
mistake. Its made
me a bigger person and
I cant hide it anymore,
the world really needs to
know. Im a normal person, I
go through things I struggle
and mess up just like the rest
of the world. Im like Mary J.
when she started off. Mary
had problems, Erika has
problems. Im a little happier
now. Im not stressing no
more, I dont wanna talk
about breakin up no more.

Thats all I can say.
Here for now that is.
Despite the love she
gets from her fans she
still feels jaded by the
city she calls home
and is in the process
of making a decision
that may just take
her talents to Atlanta,
L.A. or Texas. (South Beach
was already taken.) Its very
hard making it from here but
Ive been at it so long and my
determination level is so high I
wont give up, and I wont give up
on Cleveland. But, have I had my
thoughts about leaving Cleveland?
Yeah, plenty of times. I go to other
cities and I see how their hospitality
is for their hometown artists and I
dont see that in Cleveland. I know if
I can make it in Atlanta and theyll
play me out there Im going. Im
thinking about leaving Cleveland
real soon.

Local singer Britni Elise working toward international celebrity

ritni Elise is a singer/songwriter and defnitely a rising star in
2011. Singing melodies with her father at the age of three, Britni
took her frst, of many steps toward success. Since the age of
twelve, she was determined to become the new Pop ICON of the
21st century.
In her teens, Britni Elise formed two female groups, one
Gospel and the other R&B. She recorded and
performed with them until 2007 when she
began the pursuit of a solo career. Under
the guidance of industry veteran PJ Jones,
she spent the summer of 2008 in Atlanta, GA.
writing and recording with Charles Farrar
(Vyrus) and honing her skills at the
infamous Artist Development Center
whose success stories include
New Edition, Ciara, Usher,
and LeToya Luckett.
Britni Elise credits the
Artist Development
Center as the
reason for her
growing success.
She quotes, I could
not have accomplished
so much vocally and in my
performance if it were not
for the grind and hard work
at The Center. I wouldnt

her to share the stage with top artists: Trey Songz,
Ginuwine, Monica, Letoya, Mario and the New Boyz!
Being in love and having that someone that
completes you, describes Britnis frst single on iTunes
entitled, Satisfed co-written with Charles Farrar
(Vyrus). Satisfed gained national and international
radio exposure. The video for Satisfed, directed
by Dabling Harward (Spin Flight Studio Productions)
aired on CENTRIC, VH1 SOUL, MTV, Music On
Demand and a host of local video outlets. Her fan base
increased tenfold with the 2009 release of her remix to
Papers (Usher) and Turnt Up (Roscoe Dash). In
1/10, Britni released her frst Mix Tape; Mick Boogie
presents Britni Elise B.E. Satisfed. The Southern
Entertainment Awards nominated the mix tape as the
2011- Indie R&B Album of the year.
Her second iTunes single Hello (produced by
Harvey Mason Jr. & written by Harvey Mason Jr.,
Steven Russell (Troop), The Hitterzz and Andrew
Hey) receives applause with standing ovations when
she performs it around the country. The video
directed again by Dabling Harward (SpinFlight
Studio Productions) debuted on 106 &
Park as the NEW JOINT OF THE DAY on
December 16, 2010. It also aired on VH1
Soul, Video on Demand, WorldStar Hip Hop,
Clear Channels radio station website feature
Artist to Watch, and a host of local
video outlets and national blogs. Britni
Elise is a two time recipient of the OHHA
Artist of the Year Award. Britni also made
her feature flm debut in The Runners.

pring is here, and summer is just
around the corner. With the warm
weather soon approaching, women
everywhere are anxious for a new
look. After being wrapped up in
coats, wool scarfs & hats just trying
to keep warm during the cold winter
months, what better way to shed that
over-sized, unwanted clothing, than with
a new hair style and color.
Whether long or short, Stars like
Rihanna, Kelly Osbourn and Beyonce
add color to their locks, for a gorgeous,
glamorous fnish.
There are several hair coloring
techniques that can be used to turn any
hair style from boring to bold. Heres
a few examples. Im sure one will be
perfect for you!
For those who want just a small touch
of color, a few highlights throughout the
top of the head is a settle why to add
excitement to any style or length.
Another option to add spice to the
hair is a two-toned color. Part the hair
slightly above the ear, from temple-to-
temple, dying the hair a darker color
on the bottom half such as browns
or copper tones, and using a bolder
color anywhere from blondes to reds
on the top half. There is no limit to
color choices, you can mix and match
your color as you choose. This coloring
technique is typically used on neck-line
bobs or longer tresses.
For those of you who arent afraid of
being bold, start off with a short, edgy
cut. A nice pixie cut, worn by Halle Berry,
or, my favorite, a cut with tapered sides
and lots of fullness on the top. Leaving
length on the top of the head allows your
stylist to be more creative and change up
your look from week to week.
Color the entire head of hair an
intense red, blonde, or any color of
your choice to turn this hot cut into a
conversation piece. You can also take a
1-2 inch width of hair from the front of
the head and high or low-light it for an
even funkier look.
If you are afraid of permanent color,
your hair is too weak for hair color, or
you just want temporary color for a
special occasion, dont worry, colored
extensions is another option you can use
and still get the same results!
Coloring the hair can add beauty to any
ordinary style. However, Be sure to take
into consideration your profession, and
what look may be too much for your job.
If you can do it, I say go for it! You can
always go darker if you choose, but keep
in mind, once you go black, its hard to
go back! Be bold, be beautiful, and what
better time for color than in the warm
