People are at the center of everything I do. I am passionate about helping others and

connecting with them where they are. My Kuder Assessment reflected this well. Social was at

the top of my assessment, no surprise to me. While I was not surprised to see that social was my

highest, I was also intrigued by the connection I had to my second and third highest. My code

was SER (Career Assessment, Pathways Planning System Login: Kuder journey) referring to

social, enterprising, and realistic. These three can work together to create a beautiful symphony. I

would like to first discuss the impact social has on my life. As I stated before, people are always

at the center of what I do. Previously, in OGL 220: Behavioral Dynamics in Organizations, I

have taken other assessments and have had similar outcomes. One specific instance of this is the

DISC assessment. I am a high I and S which are the people oriented strengths (What is the disc

assessment?). I find that I am drawn to places and positions where I get to work with others to

help them in anyway possible. This also involves some enterprise.

When reading about enterprising, I did not feel that I related to me at all. This is because

it talks about economic gain. I did not feel that I related in that way until I was able to combine

that with the social aspect. I find that I am not necessarily interested in growing personal or

economic gain but rather the advancement of others around me. This also related to my DISC

assessment as Influence was my highest. This allows me to relate to others and influence them

on their own personal growth. When I also look at the assessment, I can look at the realistic

aspect of myself. This is a part of me that wants to work with very hands on and practical

methods. I find this is the purpose behind my drive to work with people in need directly.

Weather that be handing out food to people or helping fix a roof after a hurricane. My passions

are all a result of the main drivers behind what I do.

3

Now that I have analyzed my results, I can apply them in a real world application for a

career. One that stood out to me that was recommended to me by the Kuder assessment was a

disaster management director. This is a career that I feel incorporates a lot of what I am

passionate about. I would be able to connect with and help people (Social). I can meet them at

their time of need to help them move toward growth (Enterprising). I would also be able to use

realistic skills such as cleaning up an area effected by a tornado or patching a roof (Realistic). I

believe this is something that I would truly be interested in and would combine all that I am good

at into a meaningful career.

When looking at the skills assessment, I was not surprised to see that social was my top

as well. This is a common theme about me. People are it for me. Not only do I love people but I

am good with them as well. Connecting with others and leading people are my strong suit and

something I have always felt comfortable doing. My second highest was conventional. This was

surprising to me. I did not feel that I am someone who likes to do the “clerical” work as it is put

but I do feel that I am capable of it. This was something I had to learn about this specific

assessment was that it was based on my confidence within the certain skill and not necessarily

the if I liked it or not. My third highest was artistic. This is something I feel very confident about.

I really enjoy creating something new and different that is pleasing to the eye and also practical.

I really think that taking self assessments help you put into words what you are good at.

Sometimes it can be difficult to have an outside perspective look at how you like to work and the

things you like to work with. This allows you to get more insight onto what your skills can do for

you. For instance, an occupation recommended to me would be a recreational worker. These are

people that work in parks and that is some thing I had never thought about until this assessment.
4

After thinking through I’ve discovered that this would be something I’m good at based on my

skills and what I enjoy.

I think skill assessments are more beneficial than career assessments for the sole fact that

it gives you a wide variety of options based on things you’re good at. Something a skill

assessment does that a career assessment does not do is that it tells you what you’re good at and

compares it to careers that could match. This allows you to pick and choose positive and

negatives of all careers by comparing them based on the skill set needed for each career. I find

this beneficial because it allows you to explore more options than you would’ve been able to

with just a career assessment.

I also want to talk about my work values. This plays a big role into the career you choose.

Some careers allow a lot of work life balance while others do not. For me, my top three values

were coworkers, supervision, and lifestyle. This comes as no surprise to me. My first two are

solely social aspects of work. The people I work with make work worth it. I love to connect and

get to know the people I work with. This matters a lot to me with a job. The next is supervision.

This is also very important to me as I crave good leadership. This is also another social aspect of

work, supervisors or bosses. Contrary to popular belief, they are people too. It is important to

me that I am able to look up and connect with a good leader who I feel suits the need of the

people around me as well as the organization as a whole. The last aspect would be lifestyle. I

love to soak in life and see all it has to offer for me, certainly very important that I am able to

have that space to explore.

The next assessment I took was the career anchor assessment. In this assessment I scored

highest in the sense of service/dedication to a cause. This does not surprise me one bit. I am very

passionate about helping others around me and all over the globe. It is important to me that I get
5

behind something meaningful and purposeful for work. This is what drives me to do the best

work I possibly can. She also relates to me being a highly social person as we’ve talked about

earlier. I want something that helps others.

My secondary anchors are pure challenge and managerial competence. I would first like

to talk about pure challenge. I think pure challenge makes sense to me because I am a very

driven person. I am very excited about becoming better each and every day. I set lots of goals

and aim to achieve them very quickly. I am not someone who is stagnant in life, I always want to

be striving to be the best person I can whether that is at work or at home. The other secondary

anchor is managerial competence. This makes sense to me because I have such a passion of

servant leadership. It is important to me that I as well as people above me lead their teams with

excellence in mind. Teams are made up of people and people are extremely special and should

be treated as so. It is important to me that leaders lead in that way.

The anchor I scored the least in was entrepreneurial creativity. This came as no surprise

to me. I have never been any of the type of person to want to start a business or be my own boss.

I truly have a passion to be put in an organization and do the best work for that organization as

possible. Being independent in work is not something that matters to me nor will ever matter to

me. I also don’t have the desire to create my own company or make lots and lots of money.

I felt that the career anchor assessment was a great assessment. I think that it related to

the assessment we took before very well. I was able to draw a lot of connections between the

two. One big connection that I drew was that my top anchor connected very well with one of the

top couriers recommend it to me. The top career recommended to me what is a disaster

management director. This connected with my strive drive to have a sense of service/dedication

to a cause in my work very well. As a disaster management director, I will be working with
6

people and need to help them cope and recover from disasters. This is a cause I can get behind. I

also think the career anchors assessment does a great job at truly defining what is important at

work. It allows you to see what drives you in your work. When you understand what drives you,

you can really find the best place for you.

I have brought in the DISC assessment but I would also like to bring in 2 other

assessments I have taken. The first one I would like to talk about is the Myers Briggs personality

test. When I take this assessment, I am an ENFJ. This stands for extroverted, intuitive, feeling,

and judging (ENFJ: MBTI® Personality profile). There is something special about people that

have the NF. People with the NF are very understanding and have a lot of empathy towards

people people. This is some thing I found very interesting about myself. I have always known

that I am someone cares a lot about people but people with NF have a deep sense of others(The

Myers-Briggs Company, 2017). Something I also learned was that I have a deep sense of what I

feel is right. This can come off as condescending, which is some thing I have never thought

about and myself. After doing some self reflection I can understand why this would be. This is

why I think personality assessments are so important. They give us an outside understanding of

who we are.

Another assessment I have done is the CliftonStrengths assessment. Within this

assessment, I only have strengths in relationship building and influencing (Gallup, 2022). This

just goes to show you how people centered I am. I one strength in particular I would like to talk

about is development. I think this relates to me being social and also enterprising like we talked

about before. I like to help people get where they want to be in life. This is something I have said

for years and will continue to say for years. I really like the Clifton strengths assessment because
7

it allows you to focus on what you’re good at. With this assessment, the goal is to become really

really really good at the specific things that you’re already good at, build on those strengths.

I truly believe self assessments are one of the best things we can do to figure out where

we want to go. Self assessments have help me understand myself better and also understand the

direction I want to move in in life. Assessments are crucial for leaders who want to become

better versions of themselves. They allow us to get gain perspective from outside of ourselves to

truly gauge on what we can get better in and what we are better well we are good I already.
