Introduction About Basic Parts Of Computer, Properties Of Desktop
Lab outcomes:
After completing this lab, students will be able to;
 Identify different Desktop properties functions
 Manipulate basic settings of a computer system,
 Differentiate between different storage drives in a computer system

Theory:
In this lab students will knows all functions of system properties like General, Computer Name,
Hardware, and Advanced. And also familiar to check system configuration, name of computer
and name of work group, also identify which Windows is installed.
Equipment:
 Personal Computer
Procedure:
1) Familiarize yourself with the following basic tasks specific to Windows operating systems
[ask your instructor if you have problems]:
a) Copying/ pasting a file [select a file, right click> copy; go to the directory to paste into,
right click > paste]
b) Creating a new file [hint: right click > new > file type]
c) Creating a new folder [hint: right click > new > folder]
d) Deleting a file [hint: select a file, right click > delete]
e) Finding how to find Windows help [hint: click on Windows Start button, and then on
Help and Support, explore what kind of help is available]
2) To check the hardware present in your computer, Right click on My Computer and then click
on Properties (See Figure 1), note down the specifications of the PC you are working on in
the General tab (shown by default).

(A workgroup is Microsoft's terminology for a peer-to-peer PC computer network.

resources in workgroups to which they are joined.
4) Click on the Hardware tab and then on Device Manager, note all information about hardware
devices here and answer the following questions?

Introduction About Ms- Word Part-1,( File,Home, Clipboard,Font, Paragraph, Style)
Lab outcomes:
 Start working on MS Word and explore the functions of sub-Menu like file, home
 Familiar with different types of fonts and its functions, and different functions on
paragraph.

Theory:
In this lab students are exposed to detailed understanding of sub-functions of menu ,MS Word
and their usage. Students will be assigned a writing task to implement these tabs of MS Word
and explore their applications in a specific document.

File is the third option on dock through which we can save the document, or open new or recent

Lab outcomes:
 Start working on MS Word and explore the options of inserting headings, subheadings,
equations, figures, tables, and references
 Implement properties of inserting headings, subheadings, equations, figures, tables, and
Header & Footers usage

Theory:
In this lab students are exposed to detailed understanding of inserting headings, subheadings,
equations, figures, tables, and references of MS Word and their usage. Students will be assigned
a writing task to implement these options of MS Word and explore their applications in a specific
document.

Procedure:
 Insert pane contains page layout, tables, illustrations, direct access to browser, links,
comment bar, header and footer , miscellaneous text details an symbol option.

 Page layout sub-bar in the insert tool bar contain, cover page to the document of our
choice available on ms word. We can add a blank page or break a page from whatever
point we want.
 Table can be customized by the number of rows and columns we want by simple
adjusting our mouse over the boxes or the option named below as insert table by simply
writing desired number of rows and columns or by drawing it by the help of a pe
 Illustrations bar helps us browse a picture from the internet or simply insert an image
from our saved documents on the computer. Through shapes option we can make our
document more presentable such as by adding arrows to indicate something. Icons are
are stock emojis to express mood and symbols furthermore we can add a 3 dimensional
model, screenshots directly ,smart art to organize information and chart for detailed
analysis.

 A header is the top margin of each page, and a footer is the bottom margin of
each page. Headers and footers are useful for including material that you want to
appear on every page of a document such as your name, the title of the
document, or page numbers.
 Symbols bar contain mathematical equations for calculus and binomials and advanced
symbols which are hard to find and type on the keyboard.

Observations:
In this lab manual we learned about the insert tab on the Ms word which
helped us design our page, layout as we want ,add tables, pictures, icon
charts and graph to make our document presentable and more detailed. We
also leanred to browse picture directly from the internet on Ms word, add
header- footer , add difficult equations and symbols which are not found
on the keyboard.

Theory:
In this lab students using different functions in MS-Word functions like- page layout, page setup
and learn about table creation in documents and also give styles in tables.

Procedure:
 Layout bar contains theme page setup, customized page setup, text and picture
placement setup

 Theme page setup: we can adjust the size, margins or border or the orientation of
the page. We can also customize the page design.
 The review toolbar displays a spelling, grammar and a dictionary word check. A
language sub-bar, a comment sub-bar , a tracking sub bar allow you to turn on
tracking, locate previous or next changes, and accept or reject the selected change,
we can also Outlook task, save a document version, and e-mail our document.
 Language bar can help us translate into whatever language we want or we can also
add any language we desire.
 A comment bar allow you to add, edit, and delete comments, as well as quickly
jump forward or backward through the comments.

 The View Tab in Microsoft Word contains different groups, and each group has
different commands to work. The list of Groups are Views, Show, Zoom, Window,
and Macros.
Document view tab

 Document view tab contains all the commands relating to the different ways you
can view your documents such as Display of the document as it would appear if
printed and is the default view, the document as it would appear as a web page,
Outlining contextual tab and draft mode allowing for quick editing. When using this
view certain aspects of the document are not visible, for example any headers or
footers.
 Zoom bar help us adjust the display percentage of the active document,by either
zooming in to 100 percent, adjusting page width, number of pages or zoom out to
the size of one page
 Macros tab with a Drop-Down. The tab is the View Macros command and displays
the "Macros" dialog box. The drop-down contains the commands: View Macros,
Record Macro and Pause Recording. Allows us to automate frequently used
formatting settings.
Design tab includes title and text theme that we want to continue through out our document, we
can also customized by choosing desired colour, font ,paragraph spacing or by adding a page
border

1. To apply a theme in Word to a document, click the “Design” tab in the Ribbon.
2. Then click the “Themes” drop-down button in the “Document Formatting” button group
to open a drop-down menu of theme choices.
3. To preview a theme in your document, hold your mouse over a theme in this drop-down
menu.
4. To apply a theme to your document, click the theme to apply in the drop-down menu.
Page boarder help us customize a boarder around the ms word page, be it segmented,
lined or dotted with or without shadow to give 3D effect as we desire.

Font - Drop-Down. Provides a list of all the available fonts (based on your current

Font Size - Drop-Down. Lets you adjust the character size (based on your current
printer selection).
Increase Font Size - Increases the font size of the current selection to the next
larger size in the Font Size box.
Decrease Font Size - Decreases the font size of the current selection to the next
smaller size in the Font Size box.
Bold - Toggles bold on the current selection.
Italic - Toggles italics on the current selection.
Underline - . Button with Drop-Down. The button toggles bold on the current
selection. The drop-down contains the commands: Underline and Double
Underline.
Borders - Button with Drop-Down. The button applies a border to the current
selection. The drop-down contains the commands: Bottom, Top, Left, Right, No, All,
Outside, Thick Box, Bottom Double, Thick Bottom, Top and Bottom, Top and Thick
Bottom, Top and Double Bottom, Draw Border, Draw Border Grid, Erase Border,
Line Color, Line Style and More Borders.
Fill Color - Button with Drop-Down. The button applies a colour to the background
of the current selection. The drop-down contains the commands: Theme Colors,
Standard Colors, No Fill and More Colors.
Font Color - Button with Drop-Down. The button changes the colour of the font of
the current selection. The drop-down contains the commands: Automatic, Theme
Colors, Standard Colors and More Colors.
Alignment
You can display the "Format Cells" dialog box, Alignment tab, by clicking on the
dialog box launcher in the bottom right corner of this group.
Top Align - Align text to the top of the cell.

Middle Align - Align text to the center of the cell.

Bottom Align - Align text to the bottom of the cell.
Orientation - Drop-Down. Rotates the current selection to a diagonal angle or a
vertical angle. The drop-down contains the commands: Angle Counterclockwise,
Angle Clockwise, Vertical Text, Rotate Text Up, Rotate Text Down and Format Cell
Alignment.
Wrap Text - Wraps the text so it is displayed on multiple lines.
Align Left - Aligns data to the left edge of the cell.
Center - Aligns data to the middle of the cell.
Align Right - Aligns data to the right edge of the cell.
Decrease Indent - (Ctrl + Alt + Shift + Tab). Decreases the indent by 1 or removes
the indent completely.
Increase Indent - (Ctrl + Alt + Tab). Increases the indent by 1.
Merge & Center - Button with Drop-Down. The button joins the selected cells and
centres the contents in the new cell. The drop-down contains the commands:
Merge & Center, Merge Across, Merge Cells and Unmerge Cells. The Merge Across
will only merge the cells in the same row. The Merge Cells are the same as Merge
and Center but with no change to the alignment.
Number
You can display the "Format Cells" dialog box, Number tab, by clicking on the dialog
box launcher in the bottom right corner of this group.
Number Format - Provides a list of all the available number formats. The built-in
number formats are: General, Number, Currency, Accounting, Short Date, Long
Date, Time, Percentage, Fraction, Scientific and Text.
Accounting Number Format - Button with Drop-Down. The button applies your
'default' accounting number format to the current selection. The drop-down
contains the commands: English (UK), English (US), Euro and More Accounting
Formats.
Percent Style - (Applies the percent number format to the current selection.
Comma Style - Applies the comma style number format to the current selection.
Increase Decimal - Adds one decimal place to the current selection.
Decrease Decimal - Removes one decimal place from the current selection.
Styles
Conditional Formatting - Drop-Down. Provides access to conditional formatting
commands which can be used to apply cell formatting automatically. The drop-
down contains the commands: Highlight Cells Rules, Top/Bottom Rules, Data Bars,
Color Scales, Icon Sets, New Rule, Clear Rules and Manage Rules.

Format as Table - Drop-Down. This applies a Table Style to the current selection
and defines it as a table. The drop-down contains the commands: Light, Medium,
Dark, New Table Style and New PivotTable Style. The New Table Style displays the
"New Table Style" dialog box. The New PivotTableStyle displays the "New PivotTable
Style" dialog box.
Cell Styles - Drop-Down. This applies a cell style to the current selection. The drop-
down contains the commands: Custom, Good Bad and Neutral, Data and Model,
Titles and Headings, Themed Cell Styles, Number Format, New Cell Style and Merge
Styles. The New Cell Style displays the "Style" dialog box.
Cells
Insert - Button with Drop-Down. The button always inserts cells into the current
selection, shifting cells down. The drop-down contains the commands: Insert Cells,
Insert Sheet Rows and Insert Sheet Columns, Insert Sheet.
Delete - Button with Drop-Down. The button always deletes the current selection
shifting cells up. The drop-down contains the commands: Delete Cells, Delete Sheet
Rows, Delete Sheet Columns and Delete Sheet.
Format - Drop-Down. Provides an assortment of useful commands that apply to
rows, columns and sheets. The drop-down contains the commands: Row Height,
AutoFit Row Height, Column Width, AutoFit Column Width, Default Width, Hide &
Unhide, Rename Sheet, Move or Copy Sheet, Tab Color, Protect Sheet, Lock Cell and
Format Cells. The Hide & Unhide extension contains the commands: Hide Rows,
Hide Columns, Hide Sheet, Unhide Rows, Unhide Columns and Unhide Sheet.
Filters
Slicer - Filter dates in your Tables. Exactly the same command can be found on the
Table Tools - Design Tab.

Column or Bar - Drop-Down. The drop-down contains the commands: 2-D Column,

Line or Area - Drop-Down. The drop-down contains the commands: 2-D Line, 3-D
Line, 2-D Area, 3-D Area and More Line Charts.

Text Box - Inserts a textbox that can be positioned anywhere on the page.
Header & Footer - Switches to Page Layout view and automatically puts your
cursor in the header box. This will then display the Header & Footer Tools - Design
contextual tab. To exit just click out of the header or footer.
WordArt - Drop-Down. Gives you a choice of Word Art styles to insert. The drop-
down contains a gallery of different styles.
Signature Line - Button with Drop-Down. The button inserts a signature line that
specifies the individual who must sign. The drop-down displays the commands:
Microsoft Office Signature Line and Add Signature Services.
Object - Displays the Object dialog box allowing you to insert embedded objects.
Symbols
Equation - Drop-Down. The drop-down contains the commands: Area of Circle,
Binomial Theorem, Expansion of a Sum, Fourier Series and Insert New Equation.
Symbol - Displays the Symbol dialog box.

Orientation - Drop-Down. Lets you switch between Portrait and Landscape.
