PCA-Political Frame Worksheet


Worksheet Objectives:
1. Describe the political frame
2. Apply the political frame to your personal case situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Briefly restate your situation from Module 1 and your role.

My role is the organization is stakeholder/shareholder. I have been a Partner (employee) for over

5 years, holding roles such as Shift Supervisor, Barista and Barista Trainer.

Starbucks current situation includes, high employee turnover, supply chain issues, low morale in

Partners (employees) and faces the threat of more stores unionizing in the wake of these

organizations issues. What I will be evaluating over the course will be the company’s strategy for

their Reinvention Plan. This plan specifically includes: a roadmap for accelerated EPS (earning

per share) growth, Experiential convenience for customers, Accelerating Starbucks leadership

posing in international market (Starbucks Stories, 2022). This study will also include the

transition in of New CEO Laxman Narasimham.

2) Describe how the politics of the organization influenced the situation.

The Politics of the organization were influenced by the situation by changing

hands. The organizations political stand point was to create a safer, more inclusive

environment. But this was only due to the lack of support shown over time. This lack of

support was the piece that led to the build up of low morale, employee unhappiness and

eventually the unionization of multiple stores company wide.

This unionization actually went further than Starbucks Corporate. Gaining tracion

of state senators nationwide, who rooted for employees to move forward with rights of

the employee. One politician who gave support was Bernie Sanders. This support was

crucial in showing and sharing information with stores looking to unionize.

3) Recommend how you would use organizational politics for an alternative course of
action regarding your case.

4) Reflect on what you would do or not do differently given what you have learned
about this frame.

Using the four principles to support morale are imperative to an organization. Starbucks lost

its way on some of these prinicples. Using bargaining and negotiating was a astep to late after

unionization. The way of the employees who are leading the charge for other employees have

grasped the political frame, by bargaining an negotiating for the whole of the store they represet.

They also lead the charge for other stores, though this isia threat to the organization as a whole.
