Reflection Paper

‘’don’t be afraid to be what you are, cause all you can be is you”
Freedom Writers a Story that hits every person’s reality. Chaos, Suffering, Family
Problems, Depression, Self-issue, Life and Friendship. We all relate to the movie, right?
Cause I relate so much, to the point that I teared up from the different point of views and
experiences. Erin Gruwell a teacher who achieved something that is great and very rare
among others on Wilson high. She is willing to do everything to change the lives of her
students to Inspire them to make a difference. At first, I think that it’s impossible to teach
such bad attitude kids especially does who are involved in gangs and violence, but Mrs.
Gruwell proved that these kids aren’t useless and worthless. They can give so much
more than what they were before and that’s because they are not treated equally and
that is what our reality is. Racism, White-power and unequal rights, this “people judge
on what they see on the outside and not understand the inside.” It’s sad that our society
only cared about those who are rich, smart, and educated. But thanks to Mrs. Gruwell
she made me respect the teachers more and appreciate their hard-working bodies just
to help us train and develop our positive and negative minds.

The most shocking thing to me is how strong her determination is even when her
husband eventually gave up on their relationship and got divorce. She supports her
students and help change each behavior to become a responsible and a better citizen,
she fights to remain with her students through their four years of high school so that she
can continue to shepherd them academically, socially, and emotionally. The more they
start trusting Erin the more they started to come together and tried to achieve a new life
and make a change and thanks to Anne Frank’s Experience we will never meet the
sweet and charming Miep Gieps who shared her story to the young students that made
them motivated and truly changed.

As a student this Movie encourage me to study more and appreciate my

surroundings, I am very grateful to have a loving family and a good environment that will
help me to achieve my goals for my future. As I grow older and have bigger problems to
face and responsibilities. I will always remember what Mrs. Gruwell said ‘’don’t be afraid
to be what you are, cause all you can be is you” Whatever happens I will be strong,
confident and positive because I know from every battle I face I will face it with the lord.
