Belen THE LIFE AND WORKS OF RIZAL

2BSCS-1 Module 1 Assignment 1

Is the teaching of Rizal course realistic given the dangers and sensitivity of literature
as means of communication in learning nationalism, patriotism, and volunteerism?
Do we really learn nationalism and patriotism with the present pedagogy of Rizal
course?

I believe that the Rizal course, despite some of his works being fictional, still
shows realism or being realistic. It's because this is his way of communicating with
other Filipinos, especially for future generations using literature. And it was also his
way of fighting for revolution before, to show how much he is devoted to our
country. And he's delivering important messages from the past to every person
reading his novels for their awareness and the better future of our country. From his
works, despite having multiple meanings, given the fact that those are meaningful
ideas from the past, we can use them now and then to express ourselves, use our
voices, and have the better country we deserve.

It is realistic enough for us to know and learn that his works scream
nationalism, patriotism, and voluntarism because those works moved a lot of people
to the past, during Rizal's time. He made use of and shared his work to raise
awareness of what was occurring during Spanish colonialism. He showed the reality
of what was happening during that time, like how the Spaniards fool our countrymen
into blind ones as indicated in every chapter of his literature.

Whatever he obtained in life, he managed to return and used his talent for
the benefit of society and future generations. Even though he had the power and
chance to go before, he chose to die in Bagumbayan, and in keeping with what he
said, the Filipino people began to feel a burning rage for freedom after his death,
which marked the beginning of the end for the Spaniards. As the national hero of the
Philippines, he chose his country and fought for it over everything. And that's what
we call nationalism, patriotism, and volunteerism.
