3. All Scholarships shall be tenable for the same number of months for which
tuition fee is charged unless otherwise provided in these Regulations,
provided always that 75% of Scholarships of any description open to male
candidates below the academic status of Masters, shall only be held by the
students residing in the Halls of the University.
4. Scholarships which remain vacant under any particular category for any
reason may be awarded to the student next in merit, in the same category
but may not be awarded to a student of any other category.

University Merit Scholarship has been changed to “University Merit
Financial Award” vide letter D.No.(c)/7668 dated 19.08.2014). Students
who are in receipt of U.P. Govt. / Central Govt. Scholarship will not be eligible
to get HF (Half Freeship) / FF (Full freeship)/Studentship (revised as “Aid
to Students”).Students who are in receipt of U.P. Govt. and Central
Govt. Scholarships will have to return the HF (Half freeship) /FF
(Full freeship)/ Studentship (revised as “Aid to Students”) amount, if
awarded at any stage. In case of award of University Scholarship, fee
concession (full or half freeship), may be given provided the total
amount does not exceed Rs.30,000/- per annum.
7. The following are the rules for the award of Merit Scholarship in Persian,
Arabic and Sanskrit:
(iii) Those who are awarded the Scholarship of B.A. (Hons.) during
first year shall receive the Scholarship for the entire course, provided
they secure at least second division marks in the subject at the
end of each year.
(iv) Those who get Scholarship in M.A. during the first year will get
it for two years, provided they secure at least second division
marks in the subject at the end of each year.
(v) If a Scholarship falls vacant in B.A. (Hons.) after first year, a test
shall be held. If there is a vacancy in B.A. (Hons.) and M.A. after
second and first year, respectively, the Scholarship shall be awarded
on the basis of marks obtained in the preceding examinations.
8. The term of all the Merit Scholarships based on Competitive test and
University Examination results in the Faculties of Agricultural Sciences,

Arts, Social Sciences, Science, Life Sciences and Law shall initially be for
11 months which may further be continued in the subsequent years
depending on the performance of the previous examinations where the
percentage of marks should not be less than 60%. If the Scholarship
holder fails in the Examination or indulges in misconduct, the Scholarship
shall not be continued in subsequent years. The Scholarship falling vacant
on these accounts will be awarded to the candidate who have appeared in the
respective Examinations and is/are next in order of merit. Also, if a student
is awarded “University Merit Financial Award” during first
year/first semester and then he/she is admitted to any new
course, the remaining period of “University Merit Financial
Award” may be given to the student standing next in the order of merit (if
recommended by the Chairman of the Department concerned)

Four Scholarships, each of the value of Rs.250/- per month , tenable for
12 months, to be awarded to the students, one each from First,
Second, Third and Fourth Year of B.Tech. (Civil). The award of
Scholarships shall be made to students without consideration of
religion, cast, creed, sex or any other such aspect. The Scholarships
shall be given on the basis of merit-cum-financial need. The
expenditure will be met out of the interest earned on the
donation of Rs.1,00,000/- made by Mr. Krishna Murari Gupta.
Scholarship of Rs. 1000/- per month, for ten months will be given to
a financially deserving student pursuing B.Tech.(Civil) at University.

1. Three Merit Awards of Rs.270/-, 225/- and 180/- per month each, to be
awarded to students standing First, Second and Third, in order of merit,
at the L.L.B. Examination of this University and joining L.L.M. class
of this University. The Scholarships shall be tenable for 22 months.
2. Two General Merit Awards of Rs.450/- per month each, tenable for

22 months, to be awarded to students joining L.L.M. class who have
secured First Division in L.L.B. Examination.

FACULTY OF LIFE SCIENCES
1.Thirteen Merit Awards of the value of Rs.450/- per month, tenable for 22
months, to be awarded to students of M.Sc. in Faculty of Life Sciences,
5 in each Departments of Botany and Zoology, and 3 in Biochemistry,
on the basis of a Competitive Test.
LIFE
passed the M.Sc. Previous with First Division marks, provided that the
income of her parent/guardian does not exceed Rs 1500/- per month and
that the awardee is not getting any other University Scholarship.
Four Scholarships (two for boys and two for girls) of the value of Rs.300/-
per month each, tenable for 10 months, will be awarded to students of
M.Sc. (Final)( Botany) who have secured First Division marks in the M.Sc.
(Previous) (Botany) course in order of merit. If during any session, the
required number of students in the ratio mentioned above is not available,
the scholarship may not be awarded in any other manner and the remaining
unpaid amount carried over may be distributed in the next year equally
among the four students. The expenditure will be met out of the interest
earned on the donation of Rs.1,00,000/- made by Dr. Rashid Farooq.

Two Scholarships entitled, “Prof. S.M. Hadi Post Graduate Merit cum

12 months are to be given to a M.Sc. (Previous) and M.Sc.(Final) year
students in the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Life Sciences.

Five Scholarships of the value of Rs.120/- per month each, tenable for
11 months, shall be awarded to students of MBBS course from I to V
Year, out of the donation made by Mr. Najmuddin Ahmad, 146-
Brandon Road, Baltimore, MD-21212 (U.S.A.)
One Scholarship of Rs.300/- per month, tenable for ten months, per year
to be awarded to a Muslim student, securing highest marks in the First
Year examination of the Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery

course at AMU, Aligarh. The scholarship will continue till completion
of the course during the next 2.5 years, provided the student maintains
good progress in studies. After the scholarship falls vacant, it will be
awarded in the same manner to a new student from next academic
session starting after the scholarship becomes vacant.

FACULTY OF MANAGEMENT STUDIES AND RESEARCH
This Scholarship is of Rs.150/- per month for 10 months, given out of the
donation of Rs.20,000/- made by Mrs.Elia Jafar, shall be awarded to the
best Muslim girl student of M.B.A. Final Year, on the basis of her
performance in First year. The awardee should not take/should not have
taken any other Scholarship from any other source after or before the
award of this scholarship. The Chairman of the Department /D.S.W. shall
communicate to the donor, the name of the awardee along with the
marks obtained by her in previous year on her address every year.

securing 60% marks in the Qualifying Examination.

Rs. 800/- per month tenable for 12 months, to be awarded, out
of the income of endowment established by the Nurul Hasan
Educational and Research Foundation, to students offering
History in M.A. on merit-cum-means basis.
Three Scholarships of Rs.500/- per month, tenable, for ten months, are to
be given the students of B.A./B.Sc. Geography (Hons) (i.e. in V and
VI Semesters) in the Faculties of Arts, Social Science and Science (one in
each). The selection will be on performance based overall merit in
First and Second years i.e. highest marks secured in I,II, III and IV
Semester Examinations. The scholarship will be awarded out of the
interest earned on the donation made by Ms. Zohra Aziz.

duration of the course, to be awarded to a B.A. (Hons.) student,
offering Philosophy as the main and Arabic as a subsidiary subject.

ELIGIBILITY
Scholarships will be awarded to the students who have secured not less than
50% marks in the previous and final examination and annual income of their

1. Large numbers of gold medals are also given to students of various
faculties and departments. The information on the same may be obtained
from the office of Controller (Examinations and Admissions), AMU.
2. Scholarships/Awards are also available in various Faculties/
Departments/Halls. The information on the same may be obtained
from the offices of the respective Deans/Chairmen/Provosts.
3. A large number of donor scholarships are not availed by students on
account of meager amount. The university intends to club these
scholarships to make them substantial enough to be availed by the
students. The process of merging such Donor Scholarships is in progress.
ELIGIBILITY
Candidates with a Master’s Degree in the First or High Second Division in the
subject concerned are eligible to apply for the Scholarships. Candidates
having good academic record at the earlier examinations will be preferred.

Selections
Selection for the award of Scholarships will be made by the Vice-
Chancellor on the recommendation of a Committee constituted for the
purpose. University Research Fellowships/Scholarships shall be awarded at
the following rates:
(a) Rs.1,000/- per month for first two years and Rs.1,150/- per
month thereafter.
(b) The Fellowships shall terminate on completion of viva-voce for a
Ph.D. degree or completion of 5 years from the date of registration for
M.Phil./ Ph.D., whichever is earlier.
(c) University Fellowships in each Department in the Faculties of Arts and
Social Sciences of Rs.1,000/- per month will be awarded to a Ph.D.
candidate holding a First Division Master’s degree, tenable for two years
in the first instance but may be extended for another year.
(d) One University Fellowship is available for the Centre of Strategic Studies
in the Faculty of Social Sciences of Rs.1,000/- per month, tenable
for two years in the first instance and extendable for another year.
(e) Fourteen (14) University Fellowships in Science (including Faculty of
Life Sciences) of Rs.1,000/- per month each will be awarded to Ph.D.
candidates holding a First Division at Master’s degree, tenable for two years
in the first instance but may be extended for another year.
(f) One University Fellowship in Commerce of Rs.1,000/- per
month will be awarded to a Ph.D. candidate holding a First Division
M.Com. degree, tenable for two years in the first instance but
may be extended for another year.
(g) Two University Fellowships in Law of Rs.1,000/- per month each
will be awarded to Ph.D. candidates holding a First or Second Division
