Objectives: Students will:
 Identify interesting facts about the solar system including planets and dwarf
planets.
 Compare and contrast characteristics of planets and dwarf planets

ENGAGEMENT:
The teacher will ask students about their prior knowledge of planets. The teacher will then inform students that
they will create a presentation about a planet.

Assessment: Ensure that students are confident in their prior knowledge of planets.
EXPLORATION:
The teacher and students will have a whole group discussion to gather more facts about the eight planets. The teacher will
then inform students about dwarf planets.

Assessment: Ensure students are confident in their knowledge of planets and dwarf planets.
EXPLANATION:
The teacher will engage students in a whole group discussion about planets, galaxies, and our solar system. Students will be
informed that our solar system is a part of the Milky Way.

Assessment: Have students prove their knowledge of planets and dwarf planets through discussion.
ELABORATION:
Students will be in groups of 4-5 and choose 1 student to manage the presentation through google slides. The rest of the
students, along with that student, will be using their chrome books to look up information pertaining to their planet for the
presentation.

Assessment: Ensure that students are using google slides properly and are aware of all information needed in the presentation.
