Critique on Saira-Jayne Jones Mind Vomit Artwork

Mind Vomit is an artwork made by Saira-Jayne Jones, the artwork shows a person’s that has a lot
of things coming out of his/her head. The artist of the artwork said that her artistic background
really came from having mental health issues and from her childhood, and that’s why her
artworks theme consist of things relating to mental health.

The best approach to use in this artwork is very apparent since the theme of the work is relating
to mental health and the author’s artistic background come from her mental health issues and
childhood, so the approach that I’m going to use is the psychoanalytic criticism.

Whenever I see the title of the artwork and the actual artwork first thing that goes to my head is
that the artwork is clearly portraying a person that has a lot of things in his/her mind causing a
mind vomit. The person in the artwork might be having mental health issues, has a lot of things
going through his/her mind that’s making the mind have a forceful expulsion in the artwork.

The strength of the artwork is that it teases peoples mind to think what the real meaning of the
artwork is and the weakness of the artwork is that its meaning isn’t plain or visible for many
people who just want to see and admire artworks since they need to think deep to decipher its
actual meaning.

The artwork is good for people who likes reading subtle messages since Mind Vomit gives them
that thinking. Mind Vomit is also good for people whose learning psychology since they could
give their own idea on what the artwork mean.

My suggestion about the artist is for them to keep applying their own style on the artworks since
it gives the people that see it a thinking about their own psychological interpretation which
would possibly be a new experience for them.
