BIOLOGY
Laboratory Exercise # 4
CLASSIFICATION OF PLANTS AND ANIMALS

Name: Prayl Hope L. Napano Score: ________

Date Performed: January 14, 2022 Instructor: Dr. Gloven R. Silbolboro

I. Objectives

1. To give the taxonomic account of the representatives of each

of the plants and animal according to the order of
classification.
2. Compare and contrast the characteristics of the group.

II. Materials:

Representative specimens

III. Procedure:
1. Get one sample of representative specimen (plant and animal)
then recognize their classification according to their:

Animal: Orang-utan

a. Kingdom- Animalia
(Animal)
b. Phylum- Chordata
(Vertebrate)
c. Class- Mammalia
(Mammal)
d. Order- Primates
e. Family- Hominidae
(Great Apes)
f. Genus- Pongo

g. Species-Pongo pygmaeus (Orang-Utan)

Plant: Daisy

a. Kingdom-
Plantae
Kingdom
b. Phylum-
Magnoliophyta
c. Class-
Equisetopsida
d. Order- Asterales
e. Family-
Asteraceae
f. Genus- Bellis
g. Species- Grandidentatum

2. Characterize the representative organisms under each

kingdom through a field activity.
3. Observe all specimens. Take note of their characteristics and
classifications.
4. Write all your observations using the table below. Put a
checkmark in the column of the type of organism which has
the given characteristics.

V. Conclusion:

In Animalia or Animal Kingdom, I choose Orang-utan which is a vertebrate

animal that belongs to Phylum Chordata; It belongs to the class of Mammalia or
Mammals and it is Primates in order; It belongs to the family of Great Apes or
Hominidae; Its Genus is Pongo and it’s a species of Pongo pygmaeus. In terms of
Characteristics, Orang-utan poses a more definite body form and a fixed
number of organs in structure; They are Heterotrophic. Metabolic wastes are
removed by respiration and/or other excretory routes. Movement is fast and
relatively free. Faster respiratory rates in cells. They have Indefinite growth that
continues throughout life.
On the contrary, I have Daisy in Kingdom Plantae. Its Phylum is Magnoliophyta
and it belongs to the class of Equisetopsida. It is Asterales in order and it
belongs to the family Asteraceae. Its Genus is Bellis and it belongs toDRthe species

of Grandidentatum. In terms of Characteristics, Daisy poses a diffused or
branching body and the number of organs changes all the time. They are
