BODY MASSAGE

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

 Massage Oil, Lotion and Cream

- Oil Give yourself a full-body oil massage on a daily basis. It is nourishing; pacifies the
doshas, relieves fatigue, provides stamina, pleasure, and perfect sleep, enhances the
complexion and the luster of the skin; promotes longevity, and nourishes all parts of the
body.
- Massage creams and lotions are well-suited to deep tissue and other high-friction
massages. They tend to provide medium glide, and while they can be nourishing to the
skin, are typically absorbed fairly slowly.

 Massage Table

- A massage table is used by massage therapists to position the client to receive a massage.
Most are manufactured with client comfort and therapist ergonomics in mind. A typical
table has an easily cleaned, heavily padded surface, and a face cradle that allows the
client to breathe easily while lying face down.

 Pillow, Linens and Towel

- What does the hot towel do? The towel's warmth offers an effective way to improve
circulation, reduce muscle soreness, and release tension. Whenever we're injured, we
should focus on improving circulation to the area to promote faster healing. A massage is
the best way to unwind and recover, and it can get even better.
- Consumers purchase massage pillows for a wide range of uses. Some use them to soothe
and prevent muscle tension, back, neck, and shoulder pain. Others use them to unwind at
the end of a long day or after a vigorous workout or athletic event. Some report that they
help avoid and stop panic attacks.
- Clients want to see and feel nice, clean massage sheets. They keep the client warm and
help set up a very important physical boundary during a massage. Your linen choices, and
care, say a lot about you as a professional.
 Music and Candle

- When you go into a spa facility or in for a massage, you may have noticed calming,
ambient music playing over the loudspeakers. Music is relaxing, helps with focus, and
can greatly lower your stress levels when employed correctly.
- Candles and music is for the ambience

MASSAGE TECHNIQUE

 Effleurage-Circular stroking movements

- Effleurage is basically a form of massage involving a circular stroking movement made

with the palm of the hand. Effleurage can be firm or light without dragging the skin, and
is performed using either the padded parts of the finger tips or the palmar surface of the
hands. Lotion may or may not be used.

 Petrissage-kneading Movements

- Petrissage is a massage technique that applies deep pressure to the underlying

muscles. Kneading, wringing, skin rolling and pick-up-and-squeeze are the petrissage
movements. They are all performed with the padded palmar surface of the hand, the
surface of the finger and also the thumbs.

 Friction-Rubbing Strokes

- Friction is a massage technique of applying deep pressure with the balls of the fingers
and/or thumb and gently rubbing back and forth or in a circular motion. It is applied
transversely or across the muscle fibres rather than along their length like in effleurage.

 Vibration-Shaking movements to loosen the body

- Vibration massage technique is a fine, gentle, trembling movement performed with hands
or fingers. Vibrations can be used to stimulate soft tissues in the body. Vibration
movements can help stimulate nerves, relieve muscular tension and decrease stress.
 Tapotement-Tapping

- It is primarily used to "wake up" the nervous system and also as a stimulating stroke
which can release lymphatic build up in the back. The name of the stroke is taken from
the French word "Tapoter", meaning to tap or to drum.

PERSONAL ACCESSORIES

- Some jewelry that you should consider taking off before a massage can include: necklace,
chains, large earrings, bracelets, rings.

- If you’re getting a neck or shoulder massage, you should remove jewelry such as any
chains / necklaces and depending on if your earrings are large or could possibly get in the
way.

- If you’re getting an arm and hand massage, you may want to take off any bracelets or
rings.
