Laboratory Activity

FOOD DETERIORATION AND SPOILAGE


I. OBJECTIVE

To observe the effects of different temperatures on food.

II. INSTRUCTIONS
1. Each member should have 1 tomato to experiment on and divide the A-D Sample among
your group mates. Each Sample letter should have at least 2 members assigned to
experiment on it.
2. Make daily documentation of your assigned SAMPLE, take note of the date and time.
3. Create GC in Messenger to share your daily documentation with the group
4. Complete the experiment at home for 3 days. Starting today (October 4 @ 2:30 PM -
October 6, 2022 )
5. On the 3rd day, bring the sample to the classroom.
6. Compare all the samples among your group mates to individually accomplish the table
below.

II. MATERIALS
Fresh and ripe tomatoes
Polyethylene bags/ transparent cellophane

III. PROCEDURE

1. Choose fresh tomatoes of uniform size and degree of ripeness. Pack per sample
in Polyethylene bags/ transparent cellophane. Put label then store as follows for 3
days:
Sample A: Left unpacked, fresh, store at room temperature.
Sample B: Packed fresh, store in the vegetable compartment
Sample C: packed fresh, store in the vegetable compartment of the refrigerator.
Sample D: packed after blanching, store in the freezer.
2. Place all the samples on a tray lined with its labels. Allow the frozen samples to thaw

completely.
IV. OBSERVATION
Observe the characteristics of these samples. Tabulate your observations using the
prepared table below. Adjust the table depending on the number of samples.
