5. Review/ Recall
Now this morning class, we will have another
lesson but before that we will have a recap of our
discussion yesterday. What it is all about?

(Jodi raising her right hand)

Yes, Jodi?
Our lesson yesterday was about tempo.
Yes, Very good Jodi. Now what are the kinds of
tempo?

Yes Sarah?
The different kinds of tempo are Largo, Larghetto,
Adagio, Andante, Moderato, Allegro, Presto and
Prestissimo.
Good Sarah. In summary on what we’ve
discussed yesterday. Tempo is what dictates how
fast or slow music should go but id does vary
greatly. Some people still think tempo means
speed, but tempo actually means pace.

Tempo also refers to both how fast or slow a song

is played and how long or short each note lasts.
The tempo changes the way you will listen to
music because it changes speeds so drastically
that it can send people in different moods just by
listening to the tempo change.

For example, a tempo that sounds like “largo” (40-

60 bpm) can make you feel relaxed or sad.
Larghetto tempo can be used for sad music due to
the fact that it is about 60-70 bpm. Adagio tempo
ranges from 70-104 bpm and is great for romantic
or sad music because of this tempo’s speed.

Moderato tempo is good for happy music because

of the fact it is right in the middle of andante and
allegro, which are both happy tempos. Allegro
tempo ranges from 120-168 bpm and is great for
fast-paced music.

Presto tempo ranges from 168-200 bpm and is

great for music in which it is hard to determine the
tempo. Prestissimo tempo ranges beyond 200
bpm and is the fastest tempo you can get. This
tempo causes the music to sound like it’s playing
very quickly. Tempo changes music in many
ways. It can make or break a song.

Did you like their songs? yes

So, what have you noticed with the song of monophonic

mouse? (Aila raise her hands0

Yes, Aila? The monophonic mouse sang without

accompaniment.

Alright, how about homophonic mouse?

Maam the homophonic monkey has a guitar that
Yes, Clarice? accompanied him while singing.

How about polyphonic parrot?

Polyphonic parrot singing different songs at
Yes, Marie? different times.

Very good class. Based from your observations I can see

you have attentively listen through the songs. In their
songs you can hear different sounds and voices. But what
do we call these?
Explore
Well I have scrambled letters here and I want you to find
out the mystery word.

“ARRANGE ME”
Direction: Arrange the scrambled words to find a word.

So, this morning we will discuss about texture. So just as
physical materials have texture so thus music but of
course texture in music is characterized by sound and not
feel. Who among you here have seen a water matter?

you might describe to the the texture of a song in terms of

its dynamics tempo and range however texture refers to
the structure of a musical composition showing how many (listening to the discussion)
sounds various layers or voices are heared at the same
time. Here are the three types of texture monophonic
texture homophonic texture and polyphonic texture

who can read what is the first type yes Ann? (Ann raising her hands)

very good monophonic texture or monophony is a single MONOPHONIC TEXTURE

melodic line. thank you Ann. - Monophonic or monophony is a single
melodic line.
from the prefix mono which means
one it means that there is only one sound and all the
voices sing the same notes together for example
teacher will sing “are you sleeping brother John” in
monophonic capture

(teacher sing the song are you sleeping brother john)

In my example I am the only one singing. No one

accompanied me and I sing in one note.
HOMOPHONIC TEXTURE
Now who can read the second type of texture? - Homophonic Texture is a single melodic
line with accompaniment
Yes, Maryniel?

very good homophonic texture is a single melodic line

with a companion this type of texture gives focus on the
melody at its main feature and it supported and colored
by another instrument like guitar or piano for example
teacher will sing but with a companiment. all right

(the teacher sing a song are sleeping brother John with

instrument of piano)

This time, teacher is singing but with a accompaniment,

that is homophonic texture. (Shylen raising her hand)

Now who can read the last type of texture? POLYPHONIC TEXTURE
- Polyphonic texture container two or more
Yes shy? melodies sounded together simultaneously

very good polyphonic texture contains two or more

melodies sounded together simultaneously so from the
prefix poly which means many it means that there are
many sounds for example teacher will play an example of
polyphonic texture

kindly listen carefully this is the example of polyphonic

texture of are you sleeping brother john

all right. Here, you can hear different voices sounded

together simultaneously it is accompanied by many
instruments.

Generalization
To recap everything, what is a Musical Texture refers to how different layers of a
Musical texture? piece of music are combined to produce the overall
sound.

There are four types of textures that appear in

What are the different types of a musical texture again? music, Monophonic, Polyphonic, and Homophony.

Monophonic or monophony is a single melodic line.

Homophonic Texture is a single melodic line with
accompaniment and lastly the Polyphonic texture
Can you describe each types of a landforms? container two or more melodies sounded together
simultaneously.

Very good class! It seems that you are all

listening on our lecture. Any questions? Are
we good? Since you don’t have anymore
questions. Okay now let us proceed to our
next activity.
Elaborate
now we will practice what you've learned today.
Yes ma’am. We’re ready.
Are you ready??

Now, I will group you into three groups column one is

group one column two is group two and column three is in
group three.

now I have here phrases and sentences about the three

kinds of texture and I will let you identify what kind of
texture it is so here is that the direction I will read it for
you so identify and try to guess if the place in the box is
about monophonic homophobic and homophonic and
color them accordingly to the following red for
monophonic yellow for homophonic and blue for
polyphonic the group who gets the highest score will win.

you should do your best because a bunch of prizes is

waiting for you. all right come on work on your group now
you just need to color the sentences. your time starts now
