1. Two bulbs of 60 W and 40 W are connected in series. The current through the 100 W (1)
bulbs 2 A.The current through the 40 W bulb will be
A. 2 A B. 6 A
C. 8 A C. 3 A

2. Choose the incorrect statement:

A. Fleming's left hand Rule is a simple rule to know the direction of induced current.
B. The right hand thumb rule is used to find the direction of magnetic fields due to current
carrying conductors.
C. The difference between the direct and alternating currents is that the direct current always
flow in one direction, whereas the alternating current reverses its direction periodically.
D. In India, the AC changes direction after every 1/ 50 second.

3. A cylindrical conductor of length ‘l’ and a uniform area of cross section ‘A’ has resistance
‘R’. Another conductor of 2.5 l and resistance 0.5 R of the same material has area of
cross section.
A. 5 A.
B. 2.5 A.
C. 0.5 A
D. 1/5 A.

4. In India the potential difference between live wire and neutral wire is
a. 220 V
b. 250 V
c. 280 V
d. 240 V

5. Assertion: Electrical appliances with metallic body have three connections, Whereas an (1)
electric bulb has two pin connections.
Reason: 3 pin connections reduce heating of connecting wires.
6. a. With the help of labelled ray diagram show the path followed by a narrow beam (2)
of monochromatic light when it passes through a glass prism.
b. What would happen if this beam is replaced by a narrow beam of white light?

OR
Give reasons:
a. The extent of deviation of a ray of light on passing through a prism depends on
the colour.
b. Lights of red colour are used for danger signals.

7. A student Focus the image of a candle Flame on a wide screen using a convex lens. (3)
He noted down the position of the candle screen and the lens as under.
Position of the candle = 12 cm
Position of convex lens = 50 cm
Position of the screen = 88 cm
i. What is the focal length of the convex lens.
ii. Where will the image be formed if he shifts the candle towards the lens at a position
of 31 cm
iii. What will be the nature of the image formed if we further shoots the candle towards
the lens.

8. Tia and Shivi are friends studying together in Grade 7.While Tia can read a book keeping (3)
it normal distance of about 25 centimeter, Shivi has to keep the book about about
50 cm from her eyes.
i. What defect was there in the vision of Shivi?
ii. What could be the causes of these defect?
iii. Calculate the power of the lens prescribed by the doctor for Shivi.

9. A circuit contains a battery, a variable resistor and a solenoid. The figure given below
shows the magnetic field pattern produced by the current in the solenoid.

a. State how the magnetic field pattern indicates region where the magnetic field
is stronger.
b. What happens to the magnetic field when the current in the circuit is reversed?
c. Write any two properties of magnetic field lines in this case.

OR
Current time graphs from two different sources are shown in the following diagrams. Study
the same and answer the questions as followed.

a. Name the type of current shown by graph A and graph B.

b. Name any source of the current shown by graph A and graph B.
c. What is the frequency of current in case B?

10. a. A student holding a mirror in his hand, directed the reflecting surface of the mirror
towards the Sun. He then directed the reflected light on onto a sheet of paper
held close to the mirror.
i. What should he do to burn the paper?
ii. Will he be able to determine the approximate value of focal length of this mirror
from this activity. Give reason.
iii. Draw a ray diagram to justify your answer in this case.
b. An object of height force centimeter is placed at a distance of 20 centimeter from
a concave lens of focal length 10 centimeter.Use lens formula to determine the
position.And height of the image.

11. Case study

Ram placed a glass lab on a drawing sheet and marked his pits boundary as PQRS.
Then he removed the glass lab and drew a line AO on the side PQ. He placed the glass
slab in position, passed light from a laser torch through it along AO. He observed the
path of light through the glass slab and marked the points O, B and C. PQ is the surface
of separation of air and glass and that RS is the surface of separation of glass and air.

A. Where does the incident and emergent ray meet in above figure?

B. Absolute refractive index of diamond is 2.42 and the absolute refractive index of glass
is 1.50. Find the refractive index of diamond with respect to glass.
OR
How can we increase the lateral displacement in the above figure?
C. For the same angle of incidence 45 degree, the angle of refraction into transparent media
I and II is 20 degree and 30 degree respectively.Out of I and II, which medium is optically
denser and why?
