Amigour
Overview
Amigour, established in 1972, is a non-profit company and a
subsidiary of the Jewish Agency
Amigour operates 57 sheltered housing projects throughout Israel
The majority of the 7,500 residents in Amigour are Holocaust
survivors and new immigrants from the Former Soviet Union
Each Amigour home has a professional staff including a social
worker, house mother, social coordinator and director
Amigour provides a wide variety of social and cultural services
that enhance the quality of life of its residents
Many Amigour facilities are in need of major internal and
external renovations
There are 30,000 elderly immigrants that still lack appropriate
housing solutions and are on a waiting list
Amigour’s choirs perform nationwide
“Preserving the Memories” - Amigour gathered 1,000
testimonials from its Holocaust survivor residents, compiled
them into 50 volumes, and entered them into the Yad Vashem
Archives for posterity
Amigour receives funding for existing projects from the Israeli
Government, the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, the
Claims Conference, Keren Hayesod, Federations, Foundations
and personal donors
Meet the
People
Semion Rosenfeld
Semion, one of the leaders of the uprising in
the Sobibor death camp, fought in the Red Army
and was among the liberators of Berlin. In 1990,
Semion made Aliyah with his family to Israel.
Tatiana Goverman-Lasker
Tatiana was born in Kodma, Odessa. There, at the
age of seven, she witnessed the atrocities of the
Holocaust and managed to survive the Tsetselnik
Ghetto, in the Ukraine.
Tova Adler
Tova, at the age of 14 arrived in Auschwitz, she
made her way to Israel in 1946 and was arrested
and taken to the Atlit Detainee Camp.
Jackie Shemayev
A Prisoner of Zion, Jackie helped Jews
escape from Syria. He was subsequently caught
and tortured until he was eventually released and
escaped to the Promised Land.
