Subject Selection – Year 9 to 11

Dear Parent,

Subject selection is an important part of managing your child’s educational future.

We at Dubai Scholars, recommend that parents and students review subject choices together to
ensure future study and employment pathways remain flexible and relevant.

The school follows the IGCSE ‘O’ Level curriculum and the course of work will commence from
Year 9 onwards.

 Please note that students have a choice to appear or not to appear for Islamic subject at the
O levels (Board examinations).

 Whether your child will be allowed to opt for the science stream will depend largely on her
or his academic performance in Year 8.

 It is imperative for all students to obtain an aggregate of 65% in each of the sciences, to be
eligible (This means that the student has to consistently maintain 65% in each of the
summative assessments).

 Arabic (following the Ministry of Education guidelines and curriculum) until Year 10 it is

 UAE Social Studies are offered until Year 10
 Islamic Studies (for Muslim students following the Ministry of Education guidelines and
curriculum) leading to IGCSE Islamic Studies
 Non-Muslim students will be studying Environmental Management
 Optional Subjects -- You have to choose any one of the combinations stated below

 Biology or Economics
 Physics or Business Studies
 History or Psychology
 Chemistry or Accounting
