Guidelines for Translations and Screen Shots

We have a set policy for review and approval of translations and screen shots. Steps must be followed in
order. We cannot move to a later step until all previous steps are completed.

1. Order placed
2. Contract fully signed and executed for languages requested
3. Forward and backward translations reviewed and approval of developer given (if applicable)
4. Cognitive debriefings reviewed and approval of developer given (if applicable)
5. Linguistic validation completed and documentation of validation process received by developer
6. Screen shots reviewed and approval of developer given

Screen shots must have the following:

1. Horizontal scales
2. The scale anchors must be relative to 0=Not Present and 10=As Bad As You Can Imagine, 0=Does
Not Interfere and 10=Interferes Completely. The wording must not spam more than two
numbers.
For example:

3. No slider scales.
4. The Copyright must be included.
a. If utilizing the entire tool you have the option of including the copyright in an introduction
page or header Or following last question on last page or footer.
b. If utilizing less than entire tool-must include on each screen shot.
For example:
MDASI: “Item from MD Anderson Symptom Inventory © Copyright 2000 - The University of
Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center - All rights reserved. ”

BPI: “Item from Brief Pain Inventory © Copyright 1991 – Charles S. Cleeland, PhD Pain
Research Group - All rights reserved.”

5. All screen shots must be sent to symptomresearch@mdanderson.org for review and approval
prior to use.
