A.

Using the values for the total number of candies per bag from the entire class, create an
appropriate graph for quantitative data. Be sure to label and title your graph
appropriately. You may use GeoGebra to create the graph, but you’ll need to add the
labels and title by hand or in an editing program.

The class data is contained in the link here: Class Data link Download Class Data
link. Use the last column of data, but be sure to only copy the skittle totals into
GeoGebra--don't include the last value in that column, which is the total number of
candies for all students.

B. Describe the shape of your graph. Based on the shape, identify and compute the
appropriate values for the center and variability of your distribution

The shape of my graph is symmetric. The min is 54, QI is 57, Median is 58, Q3 is 59 and
the max is 62
C. Are there any outliers in the data set? Justify your answer by showing your work to
compute the outlier fences.

Lower: Q1-1.5(IQR) (57-1.5(2)=54)

Upper: Q3+1.5(IQR) (59+1.5(2)=62) IQR: Q3-Q1(59-57=2)

There are not any outliers in this data set. There’s not a value that’s smaller than the lower fence
(54) and there’s not a value that’s bigger than the upper fence (62).

D. Check the conditions for using the normal model to compute a confidence interval or
perform a hypothesis test for μ. State whether or not the conditions are met and whether
you believe the results you obtain in steps E and F will be valid.

Random Sample/Randomized Experiment

Independent observations (n≤ 0.05N)

28≤ 0.05N 560≥ 0.05N

Normal population or n ≥ 30

28 ≥ 30

No its not because the results are 560 meaning the 28 is not bigger than 30.

We can observe that the sample size (n) is 28 and the population deviation is unknown.
Therefore, the conditions do not meet and the results obtain in steps E and F will be valid
E. Use the class data to compute a 95% confidence interval for the true mean number of
candies per bag for all 2.17 ounce bags of Skittles using GeoGebra. Round the values for
the class mean and standard deviation to 4 decimal places in your input. Include an image
that shows the inputs you entered and the output that resulted. Write an interpretation of
the confidence interval in context.

We are 95%confident that the mean value will be between the interval of (57.2765,58.7265)

F. Write the hypotheses for a two-sided hypothesis test for the mean number of candies per
bag using statistical notation and the total number of candies in your bag as the claimed
value. Use the class data (rounded to 4 decimal places as needed) to compute the
hypothesis test using GeoGebra and include an image that shows the inputs you entered
and the output that resulted. State whether you should reject or fail to reject the null
hypothesis using α = 0.05. Write the conclusion in context.

H0 = 0.05

Ha ≠ 0.05

The p- value is 1 meaning its > than 0.05, therefore we can conclude that we should
failed to reject the null hypothesis, this indicates that our sample did not provide
sufficient evidence.
