Section 1: Chapter 7

1a) Energy and Matter: Life relies on available energy

1b) With photosynthesis and cellular respiration energy is required to produce the function that
the organism need to sustain life

1c) When I bought some plants I didn’t really take care of them, I thought that they would
provide a lot of water and some light they would last for some time, but the flower ended up
dying. The flower needed light energy from the cell in order to make cellular respiration to
continue living

Section 2: Chapter 10

2a) Genetic Information: Life requires the expression and transmission of genetic information

2b) When you get a sperm and egg cell together they carrie and have all the information that is
needed for the next offspring

2c) One summer my dad was explaining to me what he did in his construction work, he was
explaining that in order to build a building they need the right blueprints. The blueprints are like
the genetic information for making the buildings

Section 3: Chapter 19

3a) Organization: Functions depends on structure

3b) Studying the molecular structure of the DNA like the homologous structure where the
functions and structure are with different appearance because they came from a common
ancestor

3c) When I was younger I was outside. We had a patio full of flowers, next thing I noticed there
was a hummingbird getting nectar out of the flower and while it was eating it was flying
backwards at the same time.

4a) Evolution: Explains the unity and diversity of life

4b) Homologous structures are when a species has different structures and functions but they
came from the same ancestor and a Analogous structures are species that have the same
appearance but they evolved separately
4c) While I was taking an animal biology class they showed us different types of skeletons, but
they all have the same bones but in a different structure. In that class they explained that each
structure from an individual was used in a different way to adapt to their environment.

Section 5: Chapter 8

5a) Interactions: Living things interact with other living things and with the environment

5b) A plant takes up water and minerals from the soil and carbon dioxide from the air, than the
plant releases oxygen to the air and that helps the roots and soil

5c) When I went to Hawaii I swam with the sharks, I noticed that while the sharks we were
swimming around were remoras attached to the sharks, Remoras live off the sharks and use
them as protection as well.
