Based on our previous discussion there are four most common types of air compressors and there

is axial compressor, reciprocating air compressor, rotary screw compressor, and centrifugal compressor.
The axial compressor is a gas compressor that can continuously pressurize gases. It is a rotating, airfoil-
based compressor in which the gas or working fluid principally flows parallel to the axis of rotation, or
axially. A rotary screw air compressor is a compressor that uses a rotary-type positive displacement
mechanism, called a rotary screw, air-end. While reciprocating air compressor, is a positive-displacement
air compressor that uses a crankshaft-powered piston and cylinders. Then, On the other hand, centrifugal
compressor is a type of dynamic compressor, or turbo compressor, with a radial design. After talking
about compression, now is the time to explain the types and features of a combustion chamber. A
combustion chamber is the area within the Cylinder where the fuel/air mix is ignited. Moreover, the
multiple chambers, the tube-annular chamber, and the annular chamber are the types of combustion
chamber. Multiple chambers are chambers that is interconnected and fed by the individual ducts from the
compressor. While tube-annular chamber bridges the evolutionary gap between the multiple and annular
types. On the other hand, annular chamber is in the shape of a ring or a cylinder and the whole of the
annulus between the compressor and the turbine is used for combustion. After the two equipment have
been discussed it’s now the turn of turbine. Turbine is a device that harnesses the kinetic energy of some
fluid - such as water, steam, air, or combustion gases - and turns this into the rotational motion of the
device itself. Its types use on-board the vessel are steam and gas turbine. Steam turbine on ship is a
machine that extracts thermal energy from pressurized steam and uses it to do mechanical work on a
rotating output shaft. Meanwhile, gas turbine is a combustion engine at the heart of a power plant that can
convert natural gas or other liquid fuels to mechanical energy. This energy then drives a generator that
produces the electrical energy that moves along power lines to our ships.
