RULE #1: If the verb ends in vowel -e, just add a -d to the end

Example: close – closed

dance – danced

Sentence: I closed the windows of our house last night.

RULE #2: If the verb ends in consonant b, n, p, g, double the consonant and add -ed to the end of the root form of the
verb.

Example: plan – planned

clap – clapped

Sentence: I planned a surprise party last month.

RULE #3: If the verb ends in t, k, sh and ch and some words ending in n and p, add -ed.

Example: hunt - hunted  wash - washed

walk – walked watch – watched

Sentence: Our family watched a scary movie last night.


RULE #4: If the verb ends in -y preceded by a vowel, just add -ed.

Example: pay - prayed 

enjoy – enjoyed

Sentence: Marithel enjoyed her vacation last month.

RULE #5: If the verb ends in -y preceded in consonant, change the -y into an -i and add -ed.

Example: cry - cried
