A Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
a. define and identify what is a verb.
b. understand the use of verbs.
c. perform the given task that depicts their knowledge about verbs (roleplaying,
tableau, & poem); and
d. Create sentences containing action verbs.

B. Motivation

Task 1: Let the students play a series of GUILTY or NOT GUILTY


Direction: This game presents statement to the students. If the student is guilty, he or
she will stand. If not, the student will remain seated.

Statement 1: I tried to cheat in an exam.


Statement 2: I left someone because I don’t like her/him anymore.
Statement 3: I tried to hide my foods inside my bag so my classmates won’t see it
and ask me some.
Statement 4: I cried because I failed the exam.
Statement 5: I play mobile legends.

C. Activity
Ask the students to identify the action words from the statements through written work,
individually.
Direction: In a ¼ sheet of paper, write the action word/s of each statement.

 Can you identify the action word in statement 4?
 Can you identify the action word in statement 5?

D. Abstraction
Introduce a story entitled “To Root, to Toot, to Parachute: What is a Verb?” by
Brian P. Cleary.

Let the students identify the action words from the given story through oral
recitation.

Springboard: To Root, to Toot, to Parachute (Story/ video clip)

 Proceed to the proper lesson which is verb.


 Ask the students their ideas about verb.
 Discuss the meaning and use of verb.

E. Application
Task 2: Performance
Each group will create a presentation that shows their understanding of the lesson.

Direction: The class will be divided into 3 groups. Each group will be given different
task to perform; tableau, roleplaying and poem. Each group will be given 15 minutes to
plan and prepare, 5 minutes to perform.

Criteria for Judging:

IV. ASSESSMENT

Direction: Choose 5 verbs from the given story (To Root, to Toot, to Parachute: What is
a Verb?) and use it in a sentence.
Example: Word: swim Sentence: I love to swim in the swimming pool.

V. ASSIGNMENT
Search at least one phrasal verb story.
