- Drag and drop numbers into correct categories

- First slide has four boxes: rounds to 0, rounds to 10, rounds to 20, rounds to 30
- Call on students one at a time to drag a number to the correct box
- Ask them why they chose that box
- Explain why it is correct or incorrect to class
*Keep in mind the rounding rule:
4 or less let it rest, 5 or more raise the score”*
Day two:
We Do - TCW practice rounding numbers to the nearest ten using the google slides.
- Have students get out white boards and markers for this guided practice
- Each slide will have a different number that needs to be rounded up or down to the
nearest ten
- Slide will display number and then the two numbers it is in between that students
have to round up or down to
- Have students write answer and say 3,2,1 flip and look at students answers to
assess where they are

Lesson Reflection

This unit specifically focused on 2.1 d which was rounding two digit numbers to the nearest ten.

The anticipatory set and modeling input for each day focused on rounding through reading, videos,

and anchor charts to engage student learning in many different ways. The anchor chart displayed

in the classroom throughout this unit was a great visual for students to look at throughout the week

and be reminded of this SOL. For visual and audio learners the rounding video helped them catch

on and learn in a fun and catchy way. Reading the rounding book helped students with vocabulary

relating to this area in math and tied in reading as well which is important for students at this age to

become more comfortable with reading comprehension.

Guided practice was content specific as well with the slides for each day displaying rounding to

the nearest ten in different ways such as drag and drop and using their whiteboards to show what

they know. This helped engage students and familiarize them with rounding. One other step taken

in this lesson plan was doing a practice test the day before the actual assessment to give students

an idea of what the test looks like and what to expect. Going over answers and explaining how we

got there with those practice questions gave students a fresh review of the weeks content. Blooket

was another really fun and engaging refreshment of content done before the assessment in the

form of a quiz with students competing against classmates.

“It’s worth taking time to support small groups, as most students improve with reteaching and

extra practice. I observe how they problem solve through their think-alouds and use this

information to adjust how I support them.” (Wilton)

Small groups was the biggest way I got to help with student needs and really give them that one

on one attention to see where they were with the content. Rounding rolling dice and grabbing

numbers out of a bucket made it more fun for students to practice while also letting me see if they

grasped the rounding concept. Independent and group worksheets did this as well because they

allowed the students to practice rounding in different ways. Every student did pass the final

assessment!
