Centrifugal pump fundamentals
How centrifugal pumps work?
1. The impeller takes the flow from the suction entrance
and increases the velocity through the vanes.
2. The flow from the impeller is collected by two
methods:
It discharges into a volute, which reduces the velocity,
and converts it to pressure,
Or
Itdischa iges into a diffuser, which reduces the
velocity and converts it to pressure and a casing
collects it
The volute casing is the most common because it is least
8. The volute causes a radial load on the rotor.
A dual volute is mote $ than @ single volute. It further
reduces the radial load on the rotor.
The diffuser is most $ but has lowest radial load.Advanced Pump Course
