Marriage as an undergraduate student is not the norm, as only 7% of undergraduate students are
married. Therefore, marital status may have negative consequences for college students’ academic
performance, as they navigate marital roles simultaneously with other roles, such as that of student.
However, relationship quality may predict how well undergraduates perform academically, with
individuals in higher quality marriages performing better than those in lower quality marriages.

A married life in college is socially limiting and most married women on campus are in a life of their
own, they have a lot to think about and many places to be at the same time; they rarely have time to
socialse or engage in events within the school. (Study Moose, 2015). It entails multitasking and
excellent budgeting and management of their time in order to accommodate the responsibilities in
the family and the equally demanding school related activities and requirements. Motherhood
responsibilities impose a large burden on students’ shoulder, while the academic community focuses
mainly on success, development, and never ending competitions without any providing support ,
therefore , taking on motherhood along with studies is not considered normal in universities.

Level of academic achievement

Academic achievement is defined as a measure of knowledge of knowledge gained in formal

education usually by test scores, grade point average and degree. Here the academic achievement
level of the student is judge by the marks that the student has scored in quarterly examination.
(Gishiwa 2021). Academic achievement at any point is cumulative function of current and prior family,
community and school experiences. It is an alternative focus on the determinants of the rate of
learning over specific time or period .(Recarda, 2015) defined it as success, learning learning and
performance outcomes, affective, cognitive and psychomotor domain. Academic achievement further
means the level of success individuals have attained through the process of schooling.

Female married students are overwhelmed with work at home and school and their rate of failure are
higher than males because they have less time to study very well or adequately .
