Abstract/Summary

Gul Ahmed textiles Mills Ltd. They faced issue in their attendance system of
labors. Employer was eating the wages of labor by showing that there are 20
labors working so he was taking the wages of 20 labor while there were 15 labors
working and employer was taking the wages of 5 labors for him/herself and due
to this reason there was lower efficiency in production because there was need of
20 labors but for the sake of him/herself employer was just giving work to 15
labor so that s/he can take the wages of 5. To resolve this issue Gul Ahmed
textiles mills Ltd had to change the manual attendance system into electronic.

Mr. Wasif Sattar Director Human Resource and Mr. Shakir Raza Assistant Director
HR was reported complains from production department of Gul Ahmed and found
out that there is lower efficiency in production Because of fake attendance.
Mr. Wasif; what do you think Shakir what should we do to manage this issue how
do we keep an eye on employer and labors for higher efficiency in production?
Mr. Shakir; yes you are right Wasif we are getting complains from the month of
august now it is December still we haven’t done anything to solve this issue. Our
production efficiency is decreasing day by day.

Gulahmed is an textile mill Ltd is an textile manufacturing organization in Pakistan
operating since 1953. It is involved in doing things from spinning to finished
products and selling those in its own retail stores. The process involves spinning,
weaving, yarn dyeing, processing, designing, stitching and in last retail. There are
more than 40 retail stores in all over Pakistan. Gulahmed not only provide range
of fashion clothing but also home accessories. Now Gul Ahmed has also added
category of fashion bags and shoes. There is wide variety of fashion clothing from
unstitched to stitched for both men and women. Across Asia Gul Ahmed ranks as
one if the leading clothing brand. It has 130,000 spindles installed for spinning
and twisting fibres. They make everything by themselves starting from cotton
yarn to finished products. Creative head designer of Gul Ahmed is Vareeda Tariq.
Its head office is in Karachi. At Gul Ahmed we never stopped trying to deliver best
products and services to our customers. In Gul Ahmed more that 18000
employees work. Almost 90% production units are situated in Landi Area.

Current Situation (MANUALLY ATTENDENCE PROCEDURE)


The manual attendance procedure of Gul Ahmed textile Mills Ltd is leading to the
complaints by the production department and employees over the problem of
attendance of the labors and a reduction in productivity and efficiency. After
investigating it came into light that full attendance of labor is being maintained by
the employer even though there are less labor actually present in the unit. The
employer is showing that 18 people are present whereas only 12 people are
present in the unit. The productivity is being affected since workload per person is
higher. Actual working hours of the employees are not being identified. The
employees are extending their breaks on their own and are spending more time
outside and less time working and to top it all the employer is using the wages of
other labors for himself leading to even lower productivity

Recommendations / Proposal
Gul Ahmed textile Mills Ltd has introduced the RFID card system. Each employee
is given a card that he/she has to swipe while entering and exiting. Through this
the problem of employer using the wages of other labors has been solved since
this system take away the authority of employer. Actual working hours of
employees are also identified and now the employees are not able to take longer
breaks than they are given. The production efficiency has also improved. Although
the production efficiency has improved but the change has not met the expected
results. The motivation of the employees have decreased due to the restriction
and the turnover rate has also increased after the change. The management
incurred a lot of cost and they also spent a lot of time bringing this change in the
system
