STANDARDS:
1. MU:Pr6.1.1 (a) With limited guidance, perform music for a specific purpose with
expression.
2. MU:Pr4.2.1 (a) With limited guidance, demonstrate knowledge of music concepts (such
as beat and melodic contour) in music from a variety of cultures selected for
performance.

OBJECTIVES:
A class of 1st grade students will be able to perform the “what is your name” song/game while
patting the beat on their lap with accurate patting and rhythms with a success rate of 80%.

PROCEDURE:
1) Introduce the song without drum by rote and have the students repeat the line back to
us, also patting the rhythms on their laps
2) Add the drum part in and have the students repeat the song after the teachers, the
students will pat the drum rhythm on their laps
3) Repeat the first part of the song all together
4) Explain the second half of the song by demonstrating with the teacher’s name and
something they like “My name is _____ and I like _____. Keep the quarter note pulse on
the drums.
5) Explain how after the leader shares their name and what they like, the rest of the class
will respond by saying “Their name is ___ and they like to ___.”
6) Start by singing the main refrain and go around the room, so each student shares, also
patting the drum beat on their laps.
