as a group, so
listen to the
people around
you

Rhythmic Notation and Value

Whole Note = 4 beats
Half Note = 2 Beats
Quarter Note = 1 beat
Eighth note = Half a beat

8 BEAT SOLO TIME!

Everyone

keep the steady

quarter note beat
In order, each student will
take an 8 beat solo
Once their solo is over the
student next to soloist will
begin their solo until the
entire class has gone

Other Sounds You Can Make!

Hit the drum on the side
Pick the drum up with both hands
and hit the ground to create a
bass sound
Hit the drum on the rim to get a
different sound
Lay the drum on its side and hit
the top to create a louder boom
sound!
Also making different hand forms
can change the sound too! So
make a fist, flat, knuckles, nails,
etc.

Group Composition Rules

There will be two groups, each group will
have a team name
Each group has to create a 5 minutes
bucket drum composition
Each group MUST use THREE DIFFERENT
drum techniques
Each group MUST use THREE DIFFERENT
rhythmic values
All member of each group are required to
notate their group composition on staff
paper
You will have 5 10 minutes for this activity

In Class Performance!
Each group will have 45 seconds to perform their
composition for the class!
Before you perform you one member from your group
must come to the board and notate your composition
on the board so the class can follow along!
Make sure you pay close attention to the group that is
performing!!!

Performance Response
Once

both groups have performed

their pieces for the class
Students of the listening group
must comment about what rhythm
and sounds they heard and really
liked from the other groups
composition by demonstrating and
playing that specific rhythm or
sound on their bucket drum

HOMEWORK!
All

Students are required to create their

own 8 bar rhythmic composition using
the rhythmic values learned in class
today!
Students will be required to perform
their homework assignments next class!

CLEAN-UP TIME
Everyone

must stack
their drums in piles of 4
in the center of the
classroom and return to
their seat
Once everyone has
stacked their drum and
in their seat then they
will be dismissed
