MATH 479: Linear Algebraic Groups

Tensor product of simple modules

Let G and H be linear algebraic groups. Let V be a simple G-module and

W a simple H-module. Then V ⊗ W is a G × H-module (with the action given
by (g, h)(v ⊗ w) = gv ⊗ hw).

1. Show that if we consider V ⊗ W as G-module with the action given by

g(v ⊗ w) = gv ⊗ w), then V ⊗ W is isomorphic to the G-module V ⊕n ,
where n = dim(W ).
2. Show that V ⊗ W is a simple G × H-module.
