Aims & Objectives Develop fundamentals associated with the analysis, design
and simulation of automatic control systems.
Contents: Introduction:
Introduction to control systems, feedback control systems,
block diagram, terminology, transfer functions of physical
systems, block diagram reduction techniques, signal flow
graphs.

Representation of Systems:
Differential equations of various physical systems such as
mechanical translation and rotational systems, thermal
systems, hydraulic systems, electrical and electro
mechanical systems.

Time Response of Linear Systems:


Standardized inputs, steady state and transient responses,
stability and sensitivity, response of second order systems,
Time response specifications.

Root Locus:
Construction of root locus, qualitative analysis,
performance characteristics of systems in time domain,
dominant pole zero approximations.

Compensation:
Cascade and feedback composition, lag, lead and lag-lead
compensation, performance modification by different
compensation techniques.

Frequency Response of Linear Systems:


Introduction to polar plots, nyquist analysis techniques,
nyquist stability criterion, inverse nyquist plots.
Bode plots of simple frequency response functions, gain
and phase margins, stability, closed loop frequency
response.
Introduction to Nichol`s chart and its applications.

FIR and HR filters, difference equations representing FIR and
HR filters, physical realization of these filters.

Structures of FIR and HR Filters:


transversal, lattice, lattice ladder cascade, parallel, lagrangian
and frequency sampling structures, advantages and
disadvantages of these structures, robustness of structures
with respect to poles.

Design of FIR and HR filters:


windowing techniques, frequency sampling techniques, CAD
techniques.
