One day I was going to the mall with my friends on the weekend. As we were entering the mall, I had looked back to see an elderly lady who was about to enter through the same door. I immediately stayed to keep the door open for her and she was just so grateful that a younger person would do something like that for her. Although it seemed like the most simplest gesture to me, it had the biggest impact on her and went a long way. This made me realize everyone applicates different acts of kindness on a different level. 2. White lies As I went through middle school I struggled to find friends to make that I could always count on. When I was in grade 6, I had met two girls that were already friends from elementary school. Since this was my first year moving to a different school, I was extremely shy and desperate of making at least one friend. We were given a project to do in class that had to be in groups of three. I was the last person to find a group and was put with these two girls. We had gotten very close and would open up about our personal lives. One day when I got to school, they wouldn’t talk to me as I noticed everyone else seemed weirded out by me. Later that day, I had found out those two girls had spread lies about me to the whole class to make me look bad. I had come to the raw realization that not everyone has your back and that their will be times in life where you feel betrayed. 3. Practice squad When I tried out the high school basketball team in grade 11, I was put on the practice squad along with a couple other girls. I was extremely let down and very hard on myself about it but my parents didn’t let me give up. I went to every single practice ready and gave it my all to show my thrive to learn and improvement of growth. I went to every game even though I wasn’t playing just to show my commitment and dedication to the team. After a couple weeks into the season, the coach took me of the practice squad and put my name on the roster. This just shows not to let anything get in the way of what to truly want and to never give up when road block are thrown at you 4. Buying the Lululemon top Since I was in REC last year, I was a part of the terry fox run and had to dress up in all acrobatic and neon clothes as usual. I didn’t have much neon clothes I went to my mom's closet and found this bright pink neon lululemon top that she let me borrow. Once I got home after that day my mom asked where the top was and I said it was my backpack, I was not and nowhere to be found. My mom was not happy with me as I tried to look for it the next day in the lost in found but it was not there. Obviously, someone had taken it and she made me replace it with my own money. This made me realize the value of money and how important it is and how quickly it goes when not being responsible. 5. Catching covid During the summer my family went to Halifax to visit family and when we came back we all caught covid. I was the first to get it and then my mom got it and the eventually my dad. When I was finally healthy and then when my mom got sick, I was the only one able to take care of the house as my dad would be out for work many hours. Since I was the only one able to get things done around the house, I had to pick up the chores that my mom did as well as my dad since he caught it a couple days later. Considering I had to do this for 5 days straight as well as making food and taking care of both my parents, it made me realize how much work is needed for a home to function. It also helped me notice how much my patents do for me automatically and made me appreciate the little things that I never noticed. 6. High school schedules In the beginning of last year my schedule got all messed up and it took them over a week to get it fixed but by the time it was fixed my classes were all changed for the first semester. This meant that I would be behind in a lot of my classes. For my composition class once the first report card came out it and was going to get a B in that class even though I had gotten A’s on every assignment but was given a 0 on everyone I missed. Even though the teacher said those assignments would be omitted since I didn’t have my schedule at the time. The next day I went to class and asked her about my grade as she immediately changed it once she realized she forgot to omit those assignments. This made me understand the importance of standing up for yourself about things that are very important to you and that the first part of change begins with yourself. 7. Dog training Ever since I was little, I always asked for a dog since I was an only child. When covid hit I finally convinced my parents to let me a dog since we would all be home to take care of it for the first month or so. Even though my parents were home to watch the dog I still had to take over the main rules like, walking her, feeding her, picking up her poop, potty training etc. This was definitely a struggle for me since it was my first time taking care of something on my own. I watched tons of YouTube videos on how to potty train dogs, teach them tricks etc. Since their puppies they only know so much knowledge which gained knowledge for myself that I needed to have a lot of patience. The best way to getting the outcome I wanted was taking my time and being proud of the smallest bits of improvement. Now my dog knows how to do so many tricks as well as other things I started teaching her from the beginning
