Data Written Analysis

I compiled the class average of the subject matter and as a class, the students seem to
comprehend addition and subtraction pretty well. Unfortunately, only two students scored above
an 80 and a little under half of the class failed the test. This means I will have to reteach and
offer additional practice to most of my students. I will also revamp the way that I taught it and
introduce new strategies.

Juan received the highest test score and got a 100%; He is doing extremely well. I will use him
as a student helper in the reteaching process and have him help his classmates. Sometimes
students learn better from their peers, so I think he could assist in improving the student’s
understanding. Cody got a 93 and both questions he missed were in addition; I think he just
needs a little more practice. He got the second highest score on the test, so overall I would say he
is doing well. Holly does well with addition and was the only other student outside of Juan who
got all the addition problems correct.

However, she had 50% accuracy on the division problems. She needs extra support with
division, as well as most of the class. Furthermore, Sarah had 80% accuracy on her subtraction,
but 0% on her division. Division is where she struggles at the most. Jamal also struggles with
division the most because although he got 100% on the subtraction questions, and 80% on the
addition, he only got 50% of the division questions right. Overall, our class average was the
lowest on the division set of questions. I will relook at the questions to make sure that they
weren’t poorly phrased, and it wasn’t due to question error. If I see that it wasn’t due to question
error, as I mentioned before I will revamp my lessons, and reteach in hopes of better
comprehension. Lastly, Patrick, Sarah, Nathan, Molly, Claire, Luke, and Carly received failing
scores on their tests. Most of them are in the same math small group, so I will do a lot of
additional practice with them during that time.
