Pedagogy Planning

In this activity, my students are going to use Seesaw to upload pictures of their retelling packet and create an audio
retelling of the story.
Activity Day One:

1) Play Peanut Butter Jelly Time to signal that it is time to transition.

The students will then know to put everything from math away,
grab their chromebooks, keep it shut and put them in the corner
of their desks.
2) Once the students are settled, introduce today’s story: Peanut
Butter and Cupcake by Terry Border, making sure to include the
Author and Illustrator’s name and reinforce the difference
between an author and an illustrator.
3) Read the story utilizing the document camera so that they can
follow along and see the pictures more easily. The kids should be
seated at their desks intently listening.
4) As we read, ask questions to ensure they are paying attention
and remaining focused.

 Break for lunch; Chromebooks remain on desk

After we return from lunch I will play the book on YouTube, and they will
listen to it again to rejog their memory of the book.

After the video, I will then introduce their activity.

1) Ask: How do we retell a story?

2) Restate the correct answers and remind them that they can refer
to our finger retelling poster in the back of the room if need be.
3) Place the Retelling Packet under the document camera and
explain that I want them to use the packet to retell the story in
pictures.
4) Do an example (ask them to name a character and draw it on the
character sheet in the packet)
5) Explain that once they do the full packet, I want them to upload
pictures on their Seesaw activity. All the students should know
how to upload and record on Seesaw.
6) Open Seesaw on Chromebook, so they can see the step-by-step
process on the Smartboard.
7) After opening Seesaw, I will go to their activities and click on:
Peanut Butter and Cupcake Retelling Activity.
8) Click on sample student, show template, upload a picture of the
characters drawn onto the characters slide
9) Tell them that it needs to be completed by the end of the week,
and transition into small group transitions

This activity will be self-paced; however, it is expected to be completed by

Friday before recess time. It is to be completed as an independent task
along with their other tasks while I am working with students in their
designated Language Art small groups. Here is an ideal pacing guide below:

They are to:

Days 1-3: Complete their Retelling Packet (Draw the characters, setting,
beginning, middle, and end of the story on their designated pages), name
should be typed on to the first slide under “retold by:”

The retelling packet is in the back of the classroom where their independent tasks typically lie.
They are to keep it in their desks as they continue to work on it.

Day 4: Upload pictures from their Retelling Packet onto their designated
slides in the Seesaw Activity (Pictures of the characters will go on the
characters slide, pictures of the settings on the settings slide, etc.)

After they uploaded all the pictures necessary, they can turn in the packet to their mailboxes.

Day 5: After uploading their pictures, they are to utilize the microphone tool
