In this activity, my students are going to use ABCya StoryMaker


to create a Halloween paragraph.
Activity Start the literacy lesson with a read
aloud of “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie
Brown.”

The students will be continuing working on


writing skills. We will begin by reviewing
what makes a complete paragraph.
Students and teacher will discuss it and
go over an anchor chart of qualities of a
good paragraph. Students and teacher
will discuss how a topic sentence will
make way for the rest of the supporting
details. What do supporting details do?
Give students the opportunity to answer.

Project example paragraph on the smart


board or projector in the room. Read it aloud
to the class. Ask the class, “What is the topic
sentence?” Have a student answer and
highlight the topic sentence. Have the student
explain why the chosen sentence was a topic
sentence. Then ask the students, “what are
the supporting details?” Give multiple
students the chance to give one sentence as
an example; highlight sentences as they go
and have them explain why the sentence, they
picked was a supporting detail sentence.

Go over the writing activity with the


students. Have students think about “It’s
the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown.” Ask if
they remember some of the characters
favorite parts about Halloween. They are
going to be creating a Halloween paragraph.
Students will be required to have a minimum
4 sentences. One topic sentence.
Pedagogy

2. Write your sentences for your
Halloween paragraph.
3. Make an illustration.
4. When you’re finished, raise your
hand. We will print a hard copy to
hang in the room, and save it to
paste a digital copy to seesaw for
their families to see.
