In this activity, my students are going to use Storyboard Creator to write an informational story
about an animal’s habitat. The student will draw an animal’s name and be able provide the
details of the animal’s habitat including water, food, and shelter in their story. The student

must include a reference page at the end of their slide.

 Activity
1. Discuss with students about what we have
been learning in class. Ask students to answer
the following, “What is a habitat?” A habitat
is a place that an animal lives. This includes a
food and water source as well as shelter.
2. Explain to students what the objective is, “We
will be using a website called Storyboard
Creator to write a short story about the
habitat in which animals live in. Each student
will draw an animal’s name from the bin.
Students can exchange names if each agrees,
no two students will have the same animal. “
3. Set timer for 10 minutes to allow time for
each student to draw a name and allow for
open discussion if students want to trade.
Once the 10 minutes is up, the student may
NOT trade or change their animal’s name.
4. Make a list of which students has which
animal.
5. Give the student scratch paper for notes.
6. Teacher will go to the StoryBoard Creator
website using the SmartBoard and navigate
the site for the students to see the site, take
notes, and ask questions.
7. Students will get their Chromebooks out and
have time to navigate the site themselves and
ask questions.
8. Students will use their scratch paper to
brainstorm their short story ideas. Allow
them the opportunity to research information
on the computer about their animal and its
habitat.
9. The student may then begin their short story
process on StoryBoard Creator.
10. When each student finishes their story, the
student will read and present their habitat to
the class.
