อ /ʔɔɔ ʔàaŋ/ (ʔàaŋ = tub, wash basin, kitchen sink)

อ is a middle class consonant letter which represents the sound /ʔ/ .

In Thai, vowel letters cannot stand alone. They have to occur with

consonant letters. Some vowel letters follow consonant letters, for

example, อา/ʔaa/. Some precede consonant letters, for example,

เอ/ʔee/. Some are put over consonant letters, for example, อี/ʔii/.
Others are under consonant letters, for example, อู/ʔuu/. Tone marks
are always over consonant letters and vowel letters, for example,

อี่/ʔìi/.
