I. CONCEPT NOTES
Thermochemistry – It is the study of energy changes during a chemical reaction.
Thermodynamics – It focuses on the changes in the state of the system including temperature, volume,
and pressure.
First Law of Thermodynamics states that energy is neither created nor destroyed but converted to another.
Types of Energy Example
1. Chemical energy to electrical energy batteries
2. Electrical energy to sound energy sound speaker
3. Electrical energy to mechanical energy blender
Most chemical reactions involve absorption or release of energy in the form of heat.
Heat- It is an exchange of thermal energy between system and its
surrounding caused by temperature difference.
Thermodynamic system:
1. System- It is the subject of investigation.
particles in the reaction (reactants and products)
2. Surrounding – It is the mass or region outside the body of system
separated by an imaginary boundary.
II. EXERCISE
Directions: Complete the table by providing the different transformation of types of energy and give
example.
