TECHNICAL PROPOSAL

Cleaning of Cooling / Heating System

• Technical proposal for cleaning

The condition of your equipment as explained from your side, was satisfactory for
confirming our capability of restoring its condition to an operational level without
any problem and/or interruption.

The present deposits - aging rust, oil, grease - are not blocking the internal pipes,
and this finding is confirmed upon our discussion, where circulation of water in your
closed system was possible.

Our principle of cleaning your equipment is setup in flushing with alkaline solution.

The alkaline solution is basically NALCO 8900 (with effective inhibitor). The use of
NALCO specialty product (inhibitor - NALCO 8900) has a good effect for the
protection of the metals, and it will be very safe on the equipment.

• Cleaning procedure
First step

1. Fill the unit with fresh water and recirculate for three hours
2. Drain the unit
3. Remove and clean the strainers
4. Blow off the low points

Second step: Alkaline cleaning procedure

1. Before starting the cleaning procedure make sure you have a vent for disposing
gases
2. Fill the unit with 5% solution of NALCO 8900 and recirculate for 48 hours
3. Maintain pH above 12 to ensure removal of rust layer on the metals
4. pH should be monitored, throughout the cleaning process to evaluate the
efficiency of the cleaning, as it will decrease in the recirculating solution and
reach a steady value which will give us indication when the process should be
terminated
5. Iron should be monitored throughout the cleaning process to evaluate also the
cleaning effect of the chemicals
6. Drain the unit
7. Remove and clean the strainers
8. Blow off the low points to ensure full removal of the alkaline solution
9. Fill the unit with fresh water and recirculate for half an hour
10. Drain the unit
11. Remove and clean the strainers
12. Blow off the low points

• Guaranty

The cleaning work for your equipment can be accomplished safely. The corrosion
effect will be minimized by the use of inhibitor.

If the equipment does not have any existing deep pitting corrosion - covered by
rust deposits - or any weak welds, then no damage to the equipment will be made.

• Needed equipment and installations

• Pump (Qty 1):Operational pressure 1 bar. It will be used to pump the chemicals
from the tank to the closed system.
• Flexible Hoses (Qty 2): To suit the arranged setup from the tank to the
network. Flexible Hoses will be also used to drain the different solution.
• Tank (Qty 1): It will be used for the preparation of the solution.

• Needed material

NALCO 8900

• Lab Equipment

HACH pH meter
DR 2010 Spectrophotometer

• Safety equipment

Mask / Gloves
First aid kit
All mechanical work will be executed by your staff. Our joint efforts
will allow us to bring the maximum targeted results, satisfy your needs. Please
note that the following should be provided from your side:

• Engineer: One engineer available all time during the cleaning job.
• Workers: Persons available all time during the cleaning job.
• Water: Make sure that supply of water will be available all times.

• Follow up

This procedure will be beneficial only if followed by continuous treatment of the

unit while in operation to keep your cooling and heating systems virtually free from
iron deposits and oxygen corrosion.

In order to maintain the cooling / heating systems in a satisfactory condition after

the cleaning procedure, we highly recommend NALCO TREATMENT PROGRAM.
CLOSED SYSTEM CHEMICAL TREATMENT
(HEATING/COOLING)

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION

Closed cooling system problems include the following:

Corrosion

Factors affecting corrosion:

• pH
• Anaerobic bacteria (SRB)
• Temperature
• Galvanic Corrosion
• Dissolved O2 and CO2

Fouling

Factors affecting fouling:

• Corrosion by products
• Microbiological deposits (Slime Former)

NALCO TREATMENT PROGRAM

A- Corrosion inhibition program / NALCO Trac 109

NALCO Trac 109 which is a non-chromate multifunctional, nitrite based treatment

for the control of corrosion of ferrous and non-ferrous metals in closed cooling
systems, chilled and hot water heating systems.
NALCO Trac 109 is a liquid product, containing a combination of corrosion
inhibitors and a buffer solution.

Dosage Rate and Feeding:

The initial dosage rate is based on your total volume of the closed system and is
verified by analyzing and maintaining 1000ppm of nitrite in the system.

Continuous addition of product will not be required unless of leakage or

microbiological contamination as the nitrite will be nutrients for the bacteria and will
be consumed.

B- Microbiological Control / NALCO 77352

Nalco 77352, is a broad spectrum, non-oxidizing biocide especially designed for

closed systems where the holding time index is very high.
Dosage rate and Feeding:

Nalco 77352 should be shock dosed every three months at 200ppm each time;
based on system volume through the feeding equipment.

MONITORING AND CONTROL

Maintain 1000 ppm of Nitrite residuals (NALCO Trac 109)

Maintain pH level between 8.5-10
Microbiological contamination (Total count, SRB)

TREATMENT BENEFITS

Eliminates leakage caused by corroded pipes, joints, etc.

Prolong the life of your equipment.
Reduce maintenance cost.
Maintain cooling efficiencies, otherwise compromised by corrosion and slime
deposits causing an insulation layer leading to loss of heat transfer.
