MORAL DELIBERATION

Out of compassion, Danica gave a P5,000 to a Charity for starving children. Inspired by her example,
many other students donated also to this same Charity their money that they would ordinarily spend
partying. However, in order to obtain that money for the charity, Danica had to steal it from a rich
stranger’s purse. The stranger had so much money that she never realized it was missing. As a result of
Danica’s generosity and example, many starving children were fed.

I. Statement of the problem

It is right to steal to be able to feed the starving children.

II. Relevant facts

Stealing donation for the starving children.

III. Stakeholders

Danica, Stranger, starving children and students.

IV. Moral options and their respective guiding ethical principles

Ethical principle of Plato, “the soul wants to do good, to seek truth in goodness, but because of our
body which is material, we cannot do what is supposed to be the right thing to do” just like Plato, Her
body is unable to act in accordance with her soul's desire to do good. Because while our bodies may not
be strong enough to carry out what is deemed to be the right thing to do, our souls are willing to do
good, just like Danica was.

V. Moral choice/decision

If I were Danica, I would be happy to have that much money to help the starving children, but I would
make the right choice to do so, considering other options besides stealing in order to be able to help
people.
