BA JOURNALISM 2A
JOURN 103 MIDTERM EXAM

1. Suppose that you are a TV assignment editor and you receive a call from an individual who
claims she saw the mayor meeting with a well known mobster. Describe how would you handle
the situation.

First I will listen to that person then I will ask for an evidence to prove that he or she is telling
the truth, because nowadays people can easily make a fake news especially that he or she is
referring to the mayor. And after that if he or she can provide an evidence that she is telling the
truth then I’ll ask help from someone that has the right to investigate about the said issue about
the mayor.

2. Suppose you are a news director for a radio station. You get a call from a student at the local
university who says he has been dealing in narcotics but wants to quit. He says he will tell you
the whole story about drugs on campus, but you have to keep his identity secret. Do you agree
and put a reporter on the story? Explain your decision.

Well, I will first make sure that he is telling the truth because people nowadays can scam you
easily, then after that I’ll interview him about his concern. And as per his identity, I’ll respect it
because it is for his privacy and to avoid humiliation to that person and it is not about his
identity we are focusing, because its about drugs and we all know that our country has a very
bad background about this crime and also this can be an awareness to all people and most
especially to the teenagers who think that drugs can help them.

3. An individual has been leaking information to you for several years and has always been reliable;
however, she now tells you a story about corruption that could bring down the city
administration if it is true. Do you tell anyone else at the station what you have been told? Do
you disclose your source? Explain in detail.

Yes I will disclose my source, because it is not just a small problem in our country, it can affect all
the people here in the Philippines and I will disclose my source and ask help from the station, I’ll
tell them what my source told me and knowing who my source is, can make it easy for us to do
what we should do, because we are not talking about two or three people here who needs help,
it is about the Filipino people.
