Abstract
Provide one paragraph summary of entire report. The abstract should
briefly summarize the contents of the entire project in 15–250 words.
The abstract has 8-10 sentences. First 2-3 sentences give the background
of problem that you are solving. Next, 2-3 sentences explain how others
have solved the problem and you also mention 1-2 drawback/limitation
of prior approaches. Next 2-3 sentences give approach of your solution.
Finally, 2-3 sentences give results.

1 Introduction
Start writing the background of your problem here in introduction. Organize
your sections into sub-sections, it is a good idea to do it. Don’t worry about
spacing, latex will take care of it. You just focus on writing content. Except in
related work section, write entire report in present tense.

1.1 Problem Statement & Objectives

Define the problem here. Use prior work to define new terms.
Then write your problem statements (objectives) in points.

• First objective

• Second objective

1.2 Motivation
Explain how does the problem manifest, why solving the stated problem is
important, who will benefit from it.

1.3 Scope and Limitation

Be bold enough to limit the scope of your work. Focus on a very specific problem
and go deep into it.

1.4 Organization of Report

Summarize what every section of this report will talk about.

1
2 Related Work
Write here about the related work used to understand background and problem
statement. Search on google scholar to find if others have also solved the problem
that you are solving. Briefly explain their work as follows. Sinha et. al. [3] use
knapsack problem to solve ..... If there is some website link or URL, then you
can say like this [1], however, sources from online articles should be minimized,
only 10-20% of total references.

2.1 Comparison of Proposed Approaches

Organize your related work with comparative studies based on proposed
approaches, datasets, evaluation metrics, and so on. Tables and block
diagrams are best ways to present comparative studies.

2.2 Research Gaps

In last paragraph, say, how your work is different. Our work is different ....

2
3 Methodology
Given that projects are data-driven, explain the dataset first.

3.1 Dataset Description

Provide details of the source1 from where dataset is obtained. Also explain the
method adopted for collection of this data, if it is mentioned in source URL.
Table 1 is an example describing the dataset through counts of some key entities
involved in the dataset.

Table 1: Details of the dataset.

Details Count
Number of videos 1,456
Number of unique users posted videos 956

Every dataset also comprises of data attributes. Table 2 describes attributes

of data. In case of supervised learning, clearly mention which attribute(s) would
be considered as the labels.

Table 2: Details of Data Attributes.

Data Attributes Brief Explanation

Video ID Unique identifier of video
Video description Details of the video in text

3.2 Data Pre-processing

In some cases, the dataset is not of high quality. It suffers from issues of null
values, duplicate entries, outliers, and so on. In other cases, you may have ob-
tained data from multiple sources (or different ways) and then you have merged
it, so explain the process followed.

3.3 Proposed Methodology

Write here your machine learning algorithm, as given in Algo 1 and explain it
in detail using example.
Displayed equations are centered and set on a separate. Note that equation
numbering is done automatically. Eg 1 explains addition of x and y into z.
y
x+ = ze (1)
2
You are strongly encouraged to provide a block diagram of the proposed ma-
chine learning model and write equations for important aspects of the algorithm
3
like cost function, optimization, error function, and so on, as mentioned in eq
1. Explain the existing machine learning algorithm (say logistic regression) in
the context of your problem.

Algorithm 1 Example Algorithm

1: procedure MyFunction(b,c)
2: for condition do
3: a=b+c
4: end for
5: if i ≥ maxval then
6: i←0
7: end if
8: end procedure

You can refer line 6 which initialize i variable to 0.

4
4 Experiment Setup & Results
Give details of the design of experiments. Explain the evaluation metrics or
parameters.
Results should be in form of plots, tables, etc.
If there is any information that you can present in tabular manner, then
create a table and refer it in text as a table, refer Table 1.
Please try to avoid rasterized images (snapshots are to be avoided) for line-
art diagrams and schemas. Whenever possible, use vector graphics instead (see
Fig. 1).

that short captions are centered, while long ones are justified by the macro
package automatically. Write detailed caption describing what is plotted and
key inference to be drawn.

5 Conclusion and Future Work
Finally write future work and conclusion.
