Unit 8: For sale

Unit 8: For sale

1. Nouns:
possessive ’S

2. Vocabulary: shopping
As we saw in unit 3, nouns are words used to
identify any of a class of people, places, or
things (common noun), or to name a
particular one of these (proper noun).

The possessive form is used with nouns

referring to people, groups of people,
countries, and animals. ‘Belonging to’ or
‘ownership’ is one of the relationships it
expresses.

Examples:
John owns / has a car. (‘John’ is the
possessor or owner.)
 It is John’s car.
Peru has some gold reserves. (‘Peru’
is the owner)
 They are Peru´s gold reserves.
Look at some
examples here.

4
Pay attention to how we
form the possessive with
‘s when the noun is
plural or singular.
A: Whose phone is this?
B: It’s not my phone. It’s Michael’s.

Now, say if these statements are TRUE or FALSE:

1. The question WHOSE is about possession.

2. The phone belongs to the person answering the question.
3. The phone doesn’t belong to the person asking the
question.
4. Michael is the owner of the phone.
