Hobbies Hobbies differ like tastes.

If you have chosen a hobby according to your charact er and taste - you are lucky because your life becomes more interesting. Hobbies are divided into four large classes : doing things, making things, collecting t hings, and learning things. The most popular of all hobby groups is doing things . It includes a wide variety of activities, everything from gardening to traveli ng and from chess to volleyball. Gardening is one of the oldest man s hobbies. It is well-know fact that the English are very found of gardening and growing flowe rs, especially roses. Both grown-ups and children are found of playing different computer games. This is a relatively new hobby but it is becoming more and more popular. Making thing includes drawing, painting, making sculpture, designing c ostumes, handicrafts and others. Two of the most famous hobby painters were Pres ident Eisenhower and Sir Winston Churchill. Some hobbyists write music or play m usical instruments. President Bill Clinton, for example, plays on the saxophone. Almost everyone collects something at some period in his life : stamps, coins, matchboxes, books, records, postcards, toys, watches and other things. Some coll ection have not real value. Others become so large and so valuable that they are housed in museums and art galleries. Many world famous collections started in a small way with one or two items . People with a good deal of money often collec t paintings, rare books and other art object. Often such private collections are given to museums, libraries and public galleries so that others might take plea sure in seeing them. No matter what kind of hobby a person has, he always has th e opportunity of learning from it. By reading about the things he is interested in, he is adding to what he knows. Learning thing can be the most exciting aspec t of a hobby. So I think that everyone should have a hobby, it is liked the targ et of your life.

Hobbies Hobbies differ like tastes. If you have chosen a hobby according to your charact er and taste you are lucky because your life becomes more interesting. Hobbies a re divided into 4 large groups: doing, making, collecting and learning things. T he most popular hobby is doing things. It includes a wide variety of activities from gardening to traveling, from chess to volleyball. Both grown-ups and childr en are fond of playing different computer games. This hobby is becoming more and more popular. Making things include drawing, painting, handicrafts. Many people collect something - coins, stamps, compact discs, toys, books. Some collections have some value. Rich people often collect paintings, rare things and other art objects. Often such private collections are given to museums, libraries. As for me, I have a very wide range of hobbies. But I prefer not very active kind of r est. First of all my hobby is music. I think it is a very special hobby, because you can listen to music while doing any other job. I hear music my whole life, I live with it. This is fully thanks to my brother, who is a very talented music ian and composer. He learnt me to feel music because I was always the first to h ear his new song. So, now I like different kinds of music. I can't say with sure that I don't understand classical music and prefer pop only. I don't really cho ose between music of 60-s or nowadays modern groups, because in my opinion there always was and there will be great masterpieces. But of all kinds of music I pr efer that one, which is really popular among lovers. I think it is very romantic and sweet and this is the reason why it fascinates me greatly. Some of my favor ite groups and singers are the Beatles, the Rolling stones, Shakespeare's sister s, Elton John, Julianne Werding and Sting. But now I would like to draw your att ention to English composer, singer and musician Sting, whose real name is Gordon Sumner. His musical career began in early 70-s when he took part in the group " Police". Later he left the group and showed his real gift. His first songs prove d his independence and the scale of his abilities. "Englishman in New-York", "Si

ster Moon", "Desert Rose" became world hits. They were not a week's charted hits , they became people's hopes and thoughts. I really admire his songs and can say that the name of Sting will always have its place in music history. I also like computers. I wake up every morning and my first thing to do is to switch comput er on. Right before falling asleep I switch it off. I can't live without compute r, it is an essential component of my life. But I am not a game-player, my main interests in computers are e-mail and Internet. Through e-mail I communicate wit h people from different countries. E-mail makes it easy and fast. And Internet h elps me to be well-informed about all world-events. In Internet I can travel to every part of the globe. So computers provide me with the most important thing information. That's why I chose computers as my future profession. I consider t hem a really wonderful creation of human genius. Another thing that interests me is reading. It plays an important role in my life. As I have mentioned already, the best book for me is Bible. But I also like reading other books. Some of my favorite authors are Phillip Keller, Charlotte Bronte, Oscar Wilde, Jerome Klapk a Jerome, John Blanchard and Frank O'Connor. I am going to talk to you about Fra nk O'Connor and his story "Idealist". I intend to divide my story into four poin ts. Firstly I will dwell on Frank O'Connor's biography, secondly - on the descri ption of the main heroes, thirdly - on the theme of the story and finally - on m y attitude to the heroes. It is useful to start with Frank O'Connor's biography. Frank O'Connor is a pseudonym of Michael Odonovan, born in Cork, Ireland in 190 3. He grew up in an Irish provincial town. His published works include poems, pl ays, novels, translations, criticism. Frank O'Connor was a real master of the sh ort story. He could draw his readers into Irish life, showing his sense of humou r and his compassion for human beings in their loneliness and their confusion. A nother point with which I want to deal is the description of the main heroes. As you know a story's success depends on how heroes are presented in the story. Th ey can be presented through the character's actions or their speech; through a p hysical description and through the opinions of other characters. In the "Ideali st" the heroes are presented through actions and conversations. I think that eac h character must have a special quality that makes you remember him for a long t ime. The main hero - Delany - was truthful, frank, decisive. Gorman, his classma te was mean, dishonest and unpleasant. By the way of contrast the author managed to underline the romantic nature of Delany, who created his own world of things , people and ideas. What impressed me most of all in Melonie, the teacher, it wa s his cruelty. He punished pupils with a cane. It goes without sign that the the me of the story is the relationships between pupils and a teacher. I think they were awful. Though Delany created his own world thanks to books, the real world turned out to differ from the imaginary one. I shall now elaborate the fourth po int of my talk. I sympathize (admire, hate, spoilt my impressions of the book) w ith the main hero because he didn't give up reading, he continued reading books. Books broaden our horizons, enrich our mind and wash away from the soul the dus t of everyday life. In the author I appreciate such qualities as: an ability to portrait life very truthfully; an ability to depict characters so vividly that p eople immediately recognize themselves; a sense of humor and a skill with the la nguage. Well, I am a family-girl and I don't really spend much time with my frie nds. And I don't have much friends actually. I find it more interesting being al l alone or with my family or with my boyfriend. And he fully shares my interests . No matter what kind of hobby a person has, he always has the opportunity of le arning from it. By reading about the things he is interested in, he is adding to what he knows. Learning things can be the most exciting aspect of a hobby.

Hobbies A hundreds years ago there was no problem of what working people could do with t heir spare time. Their hours of work were so long that they had hardly any leisu

re. Nowadays it's even hard to name all the activities, entertainments and hobbi es run by people in their free time. A growing number of people prefer watching films, performances, sporting events on TV to attending them. There exists quite a different sort of leisure activities, betting and gambling for example, which give thousands of people hope for a huge prize, and a sense of excitement and e xpectation. I have several hobbies which occupy me after school, both in and out of the house. Sometimes I wonder how I fit them all into my schedule because I h ave a lot homework. Everyday I have not much time to relax. In that period I usu ally rest after hard school day, listen to music, watch TV and videos, read book s and magazines. Computer is one of my main hobbies and interests. I choose comp uter technology as one of my options and now I study in Belarussian State Univer sity in that field of science. Sometimes I play games to relax. Every weekend I spend a lot of time in World Wide Web. I use Internet for educational process, f or finding special technical literature in different subjects and of cause for f un. I have a great number of web friends and we like to spend a lot of time talk ing to one another. Also I have great interest in computer programming. Moreover I have big collection of cd-disks and records. They include reggae, pop, classi cal, jazz, easy listening. My mum always telling me off for putting my hi-fi on too loud. Whenever I get spare time, I go in different sport clubs and complexes and play different team and single games such as tennis, football, volleyball, and basketball. It keeps me fit and happy. I can say with confidence that readin g is my favorite hobby. Books brings pleasure and delight. Besides books help to mould a persons character from his moral values. Thanks to books we learn to ex press our thoughts and feelings more exactly and of cause books is the richest s ource of information. Sometimes my friends and I exchange opinions about books, speak about them, exchange books. Among my favorite gainers are fantasy, philoso phy and technical literature. I think that hobbies and interests are an importan t factor of life. They help to form person, to relax and forget problems for a s hort while. They can be fun, educational, satisfying and also you can pursuer th em when you are old and retired.

Hobbies Only people with good deal of money collect paintings, rare books and other art objects. Often such private collections are given to museums, libraries and publ

ic galleries so that others might take pleasure in seeing them. So one of the Mo rozov brothers, a Russian businessman, gave his collection of the French impress ionists paintings to the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts as a gift at the beginning o f the 20th century. But he was not the only maker of such an expansive and dear presents. My grandparents are fond of gardening. My grandpa cultivates vegetable s and my grandmother deals with fruit and all kind of flowers. And they used to say that if you have chosen a hobby according to your character and taste you ar e lucky because your life becomes more interesting.

Hobbies Hobby is a favourite occupation of a person in his free time. I have many friend s. They are very different and they have different kinds of hobbies. One of my g irl-friends, for example, likes to knit very much. In the evening she sits on th e sofa and knits a beautyful pullover or a sweater. She also knits for her littl e sister, her mother and her girl-friends. Another girl-friend of mine spends al l her time sewing things: skirts, blouses, dresses. She makes it nicely and she always looks good. One of my friends likes to make everything with his own hands . He can repair an iron, a radio-set, or a tape-recorder. I think it's a very go od hobby. Many children and grown-ups are very fond of collecting. Some collect old coins, other collect post-cards. As for me, my hobby is collecting stamps. N ow I have 5 albums full of stamps, it is more than one thousand of them. I like to sit at a table in the evening and arrange new stamps in the albums, or write in the names of the countries, or just look through the stamps. Each stamp has a story to tell about distant countries and new people. I see pictures of people, birds and animals which I have never seen. Kings and presidents pass before my eyes and I can follow the histiory of whole nations. My hobby is not only wonder ful but very useful, too

My hobby Hobby is what a person likes to do in his spare time. Hobbies differ like tastes . If you have chosen a hobby according to your character and taste you are lucky because your life becomes more interesting. The most popular hobby is doing thi ngs. It includes a wide variety of activities from gardening to traveling, from chess to volleyball. Both grown-ups and children are fond of playing different c omputer games. This hobby is becoming more and more popular. Making things inclu de drawing, painting, handicrafts. Many people collect something - coins, stamps , compact discs, toys, books. Some collections have some value. Rich people ofte n collect paintings, rare things and other art objects. Often such private colle ctions are given to museums, libraries. As for me, I like to listen to music. 3 months ago my parents bought me a compact disc player and I decided to collect c ompact discs. I like different music, it should be good. I collect discs of my f avourite groups and singers. I carefully study the information printed on discbo oklets. I try to find everything about my favourite singers. Also I like to watc h music programmes on TV. I want to keep up with the news in the world of music. Of course, I like to spend my spare time with my friends. We talk about all sor ts of things ( politics, teachers, girls). We discuss films, books, TV programme

s. In fine weather we like to be in the open air. We find a nice place somewhere in the forest. We make a fire, bake potatoes and have a lot of fun. When the we ather is bad, my friends come to my place. We have a good time together.

My hobby I have many hobbies because there are many interesting things to do. Unfortunate ly I don't have much spare time as I'm going to be a student. That's why I have to study a lot. I like doing different things: Such as reading detective stories , listening to the music, playing tennis with my classmates. But my favorite hob by is solving crossword puzzles. It's not only interesting, but also very useful . When you try to solve the puzzle you find out and learn a lot of different fac ts. Because in puzzles there are questions about famous people, geographical pla ces, countries, scientific achievements and so on. You also train your brain. Th e crosswords are published in newspapers and magazines and there are special new spapers that contain only crosswords. I sometimes try to make up my own puzzle a nd I can say that it is not less interesting. All the members of our family like to take part in solving the puzzles and this unites us very much.

My hobby Many people have hobbies. They make our life more interesting. A hobby is what p eople like to do when they have free time. Everyone chooses a hobby according to his character and taste. Some people are fond of music, others like to read boo ks. Some people like to collect stamps, coins or badges, others prefer gardening or hiking or taking photographs. Some people like to cook, others like to knitt er sew. Generally speaking, a hobby is a matter of taste. My hobby is playing co mputer games. Both grown-ups and children are fond of it now. It has become one of the most popular hobbies nowadays. I think that playing with a computer is ve ry interesting. It is not only "wasting time" as some people say. Computer games make us to think things over proper-ly, they widen and develop our mind and ima gination. I have a good collection of different games and when I have some free time I play them with great pleasure. My favourite game is... Some of my friends have the same hobby and we like to play together.

My hobby What is hobby? It is what you can and like to do when you have free time. We cho ose a hobby according to our character and taste. Very often our hobby helps us to choose our future profession. Many people are interested in music. Others lik e to read and collect books. Some of us go on hikes, some like to work in their gardens, take photographs or knitting. Both grown-ups and children are fond of p laying computer games. Some newspapers write there are one thousand hobbies to s pend one's free time. Perhaps it is a stamp collecting, because it is one of the most popular hobbies, it can be a great help in geography, history and other su bjects. Some people collect coins, beautiful stones, toys, different tickets car ds, grow flowers. It is very difficult to describe all the hobbies known in the world. My hobby is computer games because it is very interesting and they develo

p my thinking.

My hobby A "hobby" is a special interest or activity that you do in your time off. Some p eople have animals as hobbies. They keep rabbits, or go fishing. They train dogs to do tricks, or keep pigeons to race and carry messages. Some are crazy about plants. They try to grow cacti or rare tropical flowers in their kitchens and si tting rooms. Children and teenagers are great collectors. They collect stamps, or postcards or matchboxes, or pictures of a favourite football er or pop star. Many people make things as a hobby. Some teach themselves at hom e, but a lot of people go to evening classes at their local college. Just look u nder letter B in a list of London or New York evening classes and you'll find: B allet, Batik, Bengali, Body building, Breadmaking and Byzantium. But not everyon e goes to evening classes to learn about his special interest. No one helped the se people to do what they did. A "hobby" is usually something that a person does alone. But American (and British) families sometimes like to do things together , too. American families often have quite a lot of money to spend on their recre ation. They can all enjoy their holiday home or their boot somewhere in the coun try away from home. Americans love to get out of town into the wild. and many go for holidays or long weekends into the thirty-live fabulous national parks. The se magnificent areas of countryside include tropical forests, high mountains, dr y deserts, long sandy coasts. grassy prairies and wooded mountains full of wild animals. The idea of these parks, which cover 1% of the whole area of the USA. i s to make "a great breathing place for the national lungs", and to keep differen t parts of the land as they were before men arrived. There are camping places in the national parks as well as museums, boat trips and evening campfire meetings . Americans really enjoy new "gadgets", especially new ways of travelling. In th e winter, the woods are full of "snowmobiles" (cars with skis in the front). In the summer they ride their "dune buggins" across the sands or take to the sky in hang gliders. But Americans do not only spend their free time having fun. They are very interested in culture too. Millions take part-time courses in writing. painting and music, and at weekends the museums, art galleries and concert halls are full.

My hobby What is a hobby? It is what you can and like to do, when you have free time. We choose a hobby according to our character and taste. When we have a hobby our li fe becomes more interesting. Very often our hobby helps us to choose our future profession because we learn a lot of new things. Many people are interested in m usic. They collect records. Others like to read and collect books. People living in cities and towns like to be closer to nature and they spend their free time in the country. Some of us go on hikes, some like to work in their gardens, take photographs or knit. For example, gardening and growing roses is the most commo n hobby among Englishmen. Both grown-ups and children are fond of playing differ ent computer games. It has become one of the numerous hobbies. I have got a hobb y too. My name is Nastya. Sometimes I have got some free time. As my hobby is co oking I like to make cakes and pies. My cakes are very tasty, but I like pies be st of all. I'll tell you how I make pies with cabbage. First of all I take a hea

d of cabbage, cut and put it into a frying-pan. Then I take carrot and peel it. By the way I have a very comfortable grater at home. I like to use it when I mak e my pies. I usually grate carrot, onion using my favourite grater. I put grated carrot into the frying-pan, then I salt cabbage and carrot to my taste, mix the m and add some water. Then I stew these vegetables in the frying-pan. I usually buy some paste for my pies. I cut up paste, roll it and make small pies. Then I put pies with stewed cabbage into the oven. It takes twenty minutes to bake them . My parents and friends like to eat my pies. I advise you to make such pies and I hope that you'll like them too.

(, : 1. World War II did a big destroying process all over the world; it destroyed no t only cities and buildings, but also humans' lives, happiness, and hopes. The p eople, who lived through it, never forgot and would not forget about all horrors and frights which they saw; it is obvious that they wanted to share their exper ience and trial with the younger people. These people deserved to be heard and r emembered. We do not know about the earliest wars because participants of them a re dead and their descendants too. Nobody and nothing can tell us about those da ys and those wars. Television opened wide facilities for people. It gave and gives people opportunity to immortalize victory, heroism, pain, and beauty for ever. The only one way to keep the memories and the heroism of these people and the horror of the war alive is to show the movies about it to the new generations with the purpose to educate them of respect of these people and fea r of unleashing the war. The movies about War II contain different ideas and tho ughts, but the most famous and unbelievably pathetic movie is Flying Cranes(the winner of palm-branch in 1958). This movie makes people cry because of its plot, beauty to describe people's characters and art to make people realize the conse quences of the war. 2. Today, people live in the era of progress and development. This opens wide po ssibilities for everybody. Using cumulative knowledge, people can make and perfe ct discoveries which seemed unbelievable just a half of century ago. Every scien ce has a good supply of experiences that gives a great opportunity to everybody in reaching one's goals and realizing one's dreams. It is very important for eve ry person to figure out what science can help to get these opportunities.

However, it is not less important to know that some sciences have to be learned necessarily, and Mathematics is one of these sciences. Mathematics needs to be s tudied because of its unsurpassed mastery to develop personality, great help in a building a career, and a unique possibility to communicate using it. ,

- 3-4 ( ); : 1. Probably, the most important aspect in choosing the movie is the plot. Flying Cranes tells the life-story of Veronica. Events happen during pre-war, war, and post-war periods. In the beginning of the war, her beloved (Boris) goes to make war. During the first days of the war, her house is destroyed with the bomb, an d her whole family goes under Boris's cousin (Mark), using her condition of impo tence, rapes her and forces to marry him. In the day of their marriage, Boris is killed. Flying Cranes fascinates with the playing of actors and honesty of thei r feelings; the art of their work was valued not only in Hannah. This movie deserved such a big estimation and respect among the fans thanks to i ts sincerity which was frequently not enough demonstrated in soviet period on te levision. Flying Cranes reflects the understanding of every person who overcame the troubles of the war. It gives people opportunity to see what kind of sacrifi ce every person and every family gave to this war. It shows people the truth of how the victory was achieved. Veronica is a symbol of every person who was left alone by this terrible war. She is the victim of the war and hero of the new lif e. Hereby, the plot of the movie comprises a large amount of human problems and

descriptions of human nature, and among these subjects, the art of showing peopl e's characters especially stands out. 2. Mathematics is the science that develops human personality continuously and e ffectively. Pascal once said: Our nature consists in movement; absolute rest is death."(Pensees (1670)) This phrase suggests people how to live their lives. Tod ay's progress requires people to be educated and to have an ability of learning without assistance. To do this means to improve personality intellectually. Diff erent forms and methods can help to organize this process, but Mathematics gives the most perfect of them. Its problems and tasks often demand the hard work on them. Sometimes, it takes a long tome to find the right solution, and it is very helpful for one's memory. Very showy is the fact of founding solution of Mathematical problems. People can see how solution which is found once by them would never be forgotten. It is ob vious that none of the simple examples and showed patterns could give such a goo d food for people's brain as a hard work on thinking and trying to understand, f ind, and decide independently. Besides, Mathematics teaches how to classify and sort out the main ideas and points. What pleasant in Mathematics is that everyth ing is important in this science. Knowing Mathematics helps people to study different science without any serious problems. Mathematics shows how it is important to be a hardworking and patient person, how it is approved to think and try to understand that is learned, and h ow it is pleasing and rewarding. Hereby, the art of Mathematics is to develop pe rsonality and give the wide spectrum of possibilities. This is an amazing scienc e, and along with it, Mathematics gives the rich variety of choices in building a career. 3: 2.

4: 2 3 : 1. Flying Cranes contains huge amount of the ideas and considering problems, and that is why every new time of watching it gives new food to people's brains. 2. This science proposes great opportunities and possibilities for any human sho wing the path for self-realization. :

- , : 1. Today's life challenges the question: how will be perceived this movie by sub sequent generations? Considering the plot and idea of the movie gives certitude that people of every age and education would understand and find something helpf ul in Flying Cranes. People's characters were, are, and will be the same even th rough thousands of years because this is human nature to have all the time the s ame problems. People have the same fears and emotions from one generation to another. So, the topic of the war and its consequences would never be out of actuality. Undoubted ly, Flying Cranes charms the spectators with its art and skill to transfer emoti ons, moods, and feelings; it is one of the best and greatest movies in the histo ry of soviet cinematography.

2. Will Mathematics lose the present importance and necessity for people in the future? Definitely, the chance is very small. Despite the changes all around the world and fast progress in different branches of the sciences, Mathematics stay s requested and useful. Mathematics has a unique possibility of developing perso nality that is needed in life of every human being; studying of it helps people to find their place in a huge world. Besides, it is indisputable that Mathematics in relations with other sciences gi ves diversity of choices in building careers. This science is a great aid in get ting occupation and admission. Moreover, the experience of the past and present demonstrates convenience and lucidity of mathematical language. It gives people unexcelled ability to communicate and understand each other through a complex sy stem of symbols and signs. Undoubtedly, Mathematics should be studied by every h uman being all around the world.
