Q2
A. A linear classifier is a model that makes a decision to categories a set of data
points to a discrete class based on a linear combination of its explanatory
variables. As an example, combining details about a dog such as weight, height,
color and other features would be used by a model to decide its species, such
classifiers work well for practical problems such as document classification,
and more generally for problems with many variables (features), reaching
accuracy levels comparable to non-linear classifiers while taking less time to
train and use.
B. Models like linear regression and logistic regression are trained by least squares
optimization, and this is the most efficient approach to finding coefficients that
minimize error for these models. Nevertheless, it is possible to use alternate
optimization algorithms to fit a regression model to a training dataset.
